Has your usage of Facebook changed in the last year?

A Pew Research Center study finds that some 61% of Facebook users reported they have cut back substantially the amount of time they spend on Facebook. Has your usage changed, and if so, why?

I don't use my personal facebook as much as I used too and I use it more now to share things I see already on there already and for groups than to post personally. I try to use my business page daily.

Since cutting back my FB I've learned a lot more about what can be done with Google+ and especially LinkedIn.

I've never used facebook and don't intend to start (mostly due to your and others' feedback to a question of mine!).  Part of the reason is surveys such as the above and lots of dodgy stories from all sorts of people.  I've lived without it so far so I'm sure I can face life without it for ever!

Absolutely, I check in once a day, spend about five minutes on there then leave.  For me it's just a waste of time. For some I think it can be useful for promotion purposes but not for me.  I joined Google + and found the other day when I sent a personal message to one of my contacts, it ended up on my page for the world to see so I got out of there quickly as well.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Google+. Personally, I rarely (if ever) use private messaging on any social media site any longer. If I want it to be private between me and one or two others, I always go email.

I still check it every day, but it's more like a chore. However, I am very excited about my business page - especially since they gave me $50 free advertising. I get a rush every time I get a new 'Like'. I created it to promote my Etsy shop - will have to see how it translates into traffic there.

That is one use of FB that I think is still valid and has value. My beef with FB is over personal pages.

Yes. I've been playing more than seeing friend's pages though, mainly because I'm hooked on Farmville.

Well... My mother is on there just as much time as I am and she only has one facebook account.

I use it a lot less. The frequency of their updates have driven many people away. It is going downhill.

Yes it has changed a lot. A few years ago I was using it for games such as Farmville etc. but now it serves as a messenger where I chat with my friends and check on my college group. I'm satisfied with it. smile
