Should Pinterest users worry about posting images they do not own?
Although it might constitute publicity for the person owning the image in many case /drive traffic to their website, there is also the possibility the owner of the image might take legal action against you for using it without permission.
In regards to Hubpages content: you should only be using CC licensed pictures regardless, so no issues there.
In regards to Pinterest in general: the most that will happen is they will ask Pinterest to take it down, and it will disappear.

Since posing my Q I came across a hub by Greekgeek about whether Pinterest is a haven for copyright infringement. It gives a lot of food for thought and cautions lawsuits can, and have, indeed ensued! :-(
