Should Microsoft bring back the Start button?
Windows 8 is the first version of Windows to not have a Start button since Microsoft introduced it with Windows 95. Should Microsoft add the Start button to Windows 8 or has it become obsolete?
The interface of Windows 8 significantly differs to other Windows Operating systems, and while some things have been moved around "Start" is still there. When you log into Windows 8 you are essentially in the start menu, and if you navigate the mouse to the bottom left hand corner the "start" preview will pop up. Essentially I understand what you are saying, and you miss navigating through the start button options on your desktop. There are third party softwares available free trials $3 to buy, and free and they can be found here http://www.extremetech.com/computing/14 … windows-8. I cannot guarantee the quality and effectiveness of these products, and I have not personally tested them, but feel free to give it a try and let me know what you think.
While this is the greatest deviation from Microsoft's "standard" interface, I believe they have made an easy transition to something more "mobile-friendly". To go from a classic desktop to touch is no simple task, but I believe that they've found an even playing ground by turning the "Start" button itself into an entire screen that you can interact with. I say keep moving forward Microsoft!
I've been using Windows 8 and find it really frustrating. I appreciate they want to make it a system suitable for different platforms, but for PC users it's trickier to use and not that logical. It's also a nightmare for beginners and pre-supposes a high level of experience. Microsoft never followed the philosophy of "If it aint broke, don't fix it" but previously the changes all made some kind of sense, but this time it's as if they've set out to confuse people. You can still do the same things but they take three steps where they previously took only one.
