      Hey Richie, Sally's daughter here... I like LJ a great deal, not that I write much.  But it's easy to find interest groups for just about anything, and the community in general seems very chill and friendly.
      
      The way the friends feed is set up, if you're putting lots of content out there, plenty of people will take a look at it.
      
      There's been a major hooplah recently about privacy and people cross-posting friend-locked comments to FB, Twitter, etc., but I think the LJ team has mostly fixed it, and if you know anything about code (I sure as heck don't), you can totally turn off that feature anyway.

   I've been on LJ since around 2003. But, really, I don't post much any more. I use it more to keep up with my fandom friends and to read feeds from blogs. (I was using LJ for this long before the search engines set up dedicated readers for feeds. My LJ, like my Facebook, are locked down, and not under the username I use here. I like it that way. :-)
   
   Just watch LJ's owners because they do some odd things at times. I'd suggest at least joining up to the news community so that you know what's going on. Have a search around and see if there are any active communities with your interests. Of course "Oh no, they didn't!" is on LJ if you are into celebrities. My interests lean more towards the Vintage Photo community, the cat communities, and the Urban decay community which has some really interesting photos. :-)

      Again, I'm not on LJ, but I appreciate what my daughter shares with me about it, including the urban decay photos. My wallpaper is now from Opacity...very cool stuff.
