Cheap Airline Tickets To Peru | Flights to Lima

Updated on March 1, 2011

Cheap Airline Tickets to Peru

Air travelers searching for cheap flights to Peru are in for a pleasant surprise. Lima, Peru is the South American hub for TACA Airlines. TACA Peru is headquartered in Lima. This is their major travel hub. All flights bound for South America fly into Lima. What this means to you as a traveler is that flights to Lima are very competitive in price. The other airlines like Delta Air Lines, Continental and American are competitive with their pricing.

Travel Search Engines - Searches for Cheap Flights

Travelocity, LowFares.com and other travel search engines have been advertising cheap flights to Peru from many cities in the US. In 2010, I have been seeing more ads for cheap airline tickets to South American destinations than usual. The airport code for Lima is LIM, you can enter that when you are doing a search with one of the travel search engines.

With the travel search engines you can find better priced flights if your travel dates are flexible. If you use the search engine's options for flexible travel dates, they will search a broad range of travel dates to locate the best price. This works so much better than just a couple of years ago. The results come up faster and the ability of the travel aggregators like Mobissimo or LowFares.com to search multiple dates saves a lot of time. At smaller airports, this feature is often not available, but Lima is a busy airport and it is available for this destination.

Direct Flights to Peru

Better pricing and better flights are to be had if you search for flights from the main airline hubs. You will usually find the cheap airline tickets out of the most competitive airports as well. For example, even though the number of miles to fly from New York or Washington DC to Peru is much more than say Texas, the airfares from JFK or Dulles are generally cheaper than flying to Lima from Texas.

Here is a list of direct flights to Lima, Peru from US cities:

  • Atlanta, Georgia (ATL) is the hub for Delta Air Lines. Delta fly direct to Peru from Atlanta.

  • Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL) is Spirit Airlines hub for all flights to Central America, the Caribbean and South America. You can fly direct from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Lima, Peru with Spirit Airlines. I've got to point out though that normally Spirit which is known as the the airline with ultra deep discount flights, when it comes to airfare to Peru, their airfare is generally not as cut-throat as their other Latin American destinations.

  • Houston, Texas (IAH) is the hub for Continental Airlines and they have non-stop service to Lima.

  • Los Angeles, California (LAX) has three airlines offering direct service. You can fly with either Aero Mexico, American Airlines or LAN Airlines.

  • Miami, Florida – you have a choice of two airlines with non-stop flights to LIM from MIA. American Airlines and LAN Airlines both have non-stop flights.

  • New York – JFK. Although this is not the main hub for Continental's South American flights, they do have direct flights to LIM.

  • Washington / Dulles (IAD) is not a hub for Delta Air Lines, but they do have some non-stop flights from Dulles.

Flights From Canada to Lima, Peru

Travelers from Canada can fly out of Toronto, Ontario with TACA. Toronto is the cheapest city in Canada for flights to South America including Peru.

If you live on the West Coast of Canada, finding cheap airline tickets to anywhere in Latin America besides Mexico can be a frustrating experience.  The airline guide Cheap Flights Vancouver guides travellers to the airlines flying from Vancouver. The flights are more expensive from the West Coast than out of Toronto and the connections are usually not very good.

Travelers from cities like Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatoon will find better prices to Lima if they can take advantage of a Westjet seat sale to Los Angeles and then fly onwards from LA to Peru.
