I appreciate all the responses to my question. However, I think I misled everyone since the pup...
is crate trained. I am going to be showing her in the near future and need to transport her by crate in the car. In housebreaking her, etc. she did exceptionally well with the crate in the house. But I cannot get her to willingly go into the car. I apologize if I didn't include this vital bit of information.
Do you have another dog? Sometimes another dog in the car helps make them more comfortable. Other things to try are; a ramp so she doesn't have to jump up if you have an suv or large vehicle, make sure the car is not running and get in yourself first so she can see you're not afraid of it. Above all, patience. Dogs can sense your frustration and the tension in your voice. If you sometimes let her ride in the car without the crate, she might look forward to car rides more. I've got two myself that you can't open a car door around without them hopping in for the ride.
