Anyone know of a better way of transporting a tandem bicycle on a plane?
At the moment I disassemble the bike and put it into a box (cardboard) and it does on the plane like that. - The problem with this is that I have this great big two meter cardboard box to carry around.
I would like to tour a few more countries and I need to be able to get off the plane and pretty much just cycle out of the airport, all my luggage and my partners fits into our panniers so we don't have to worry about a bag. - any suggestions would be great.
Due 2 already limited space, I never thought bikes were even allowed.
SpaceAge - They're rather good with bicycles - They only counted the bike box as 15kgs of my luggage even though when they weighed it it was over 30kgs.
Use flat rate shipping to mail it direct to your hotel. Although you'll have to cab it to the hotel, it's more convenient packing the box through the air port.
However if there is a mailbox store close to the airport or in the airport, you can ship it there as well.
You don't have to carry it. Call ahead to let the hotel know that a box should be held for your room number.
When you leave, ship it back. It won't cost you much more than a check baggage fee.
