Holland is a region of the Netherlands, which in turn is a constituent country in the Kingdom of the Netherlands (together with Sint Maarten, Aruba, and Curacao in the Caribbean). Technically Holland is the region comprised of the provinces of North (Noord) Holland and South (Zuid) Holland. But this region was historically very prominent and "Holland" was a country for several centuries. Today "Holland" is often commonly used to connote the Netherlands. For example, the Dutch national football (soccer) team is usually called Holland.

Both is just super fine to use and it's the same place. Outsiders like to use The Netherlands and some older folks in Holland.

I use both Holland and The Netherlands. It depends on what I am going to say. Holland is commonly used by the Europeans.
