    American going to Asia.  what vaccines are necessary?

    Websites state recommendations but not mandatory immunization.

    It all depends where in asia you are going, because there are some vaccines that are necessary before going. What you should do is ask your doctor. Even if he doesn't know off hand, he should have the resources and connections to find out.

    Hepatitis A or immune globulin (IG), except travelers to Japan.

    Hepatitis B if you might be exposed to blood

    Japanese encephalitis, only if you plan to visit rural areas

    Rabies if you might be exposed to wild or domestic animals through your work or recreation.

    Typhoid, particularly if you are visiting developing countries in this region.
    As needed, booster doses for tetanus-diphtheria and measles.
