Where is the best place to travel for a honeymoon on a budget?

My girlfriend and I are getting married this July and have been back and forth on whether to take a honeymoon.  We are paying for the wedding ourselves, and the budget for a honeymoon would only be about $500 (we might be able to stretch it if it was something we really wanted).  Does anyone have any good ideas?

Not knowing what kinds of things you like to do this is a hard thing to answer, so I hope these links will be able to help you!

My personal opinion would be to find a few of the free and least expensive things these links show you to do and spend a night or two in a medium priced (so it is decent and has a few nice amenities) hotel. Enjoy yourselves doing fun and interesting things without worrying about spending too much money! By the way Congratulations! Our baby girl is getting married in New Hampshire as well, July 14th 2012! We will be traveling from CA to NH!

There are a few things you can do. Since you are paying for the wedding yourselves you can ask your guests (indirectly) for more money. This could be done by your parents or a close friend. Whenever someone asks what you need they can tell them there will be a money tree at the reception and the couple is planning to use it for their honeymoon.

If you rather not go the money tree route. I suspect you could find a Bed & Breakfast Inn located along the coast or in some remote area within driving distance where you can create a romantic atmosphere, walk and shop around in a near by quaint town. I found this place using google which may be near you. I'm sure there are others. You may not be able to stay a full week but 3 nights should be less than $500 especially Sunday-Thursday.

Last but not least keep in mind a honeymoon does not have to begin the following week after the wedding. You can wait until after you count any cash gifts you might receive as wedding gifts or when you have more money to do a longer getaway. It also can't hurt to sign up with some online travel dealers to look into last minute options. (Travelzoo.com, Apple Vacations...etc) You may be able to find an "All inclusive" getaway to a tropical island or a cruise. Best of luck!

That depends on where you live.  I live in southern California and would recommend going to Catalina for 2 nights, with the ferry cost and hotel, you might be able to swing it for $500, or perhaps a little over, depends on where you stay.

If your $500 don't include airfare, you can travel for darn cheap in Thailand, India, Burma, Laos for example. I would say you can get away with a $25 budget a day for two (meal, accommodation, transportation) in these countries if you are careful.

Where else to go for your honeymoon either to heaven or to Palaces. India, know for the tourist places, have many attractive places. It is really important what type of places you prefer. If you need to go to a palace, India offers palaces that moves on wheels.

    For me there are two:

    1. Kerala- Gods own country

Kerala is recently named as one of the "ten paradises of the world" and "50 must see destinations of a lifetime" by National Geographic's Traveller magazine.

    2. Special Tourist Trains In INDIA

India have got a few good tourist trains.

Check this hub to know more about "Palace on wheels".
