How was it to grow up in a place that is so full of history?
Australia as I know it, has less history than the US, but I was still brought up to appreciate the settlers who came here before us and faced great difficulties with courage, and also to appreciate the culture of the original inhabitants, who have been here for thousands of years.
As a military brat who moved often, I have a deep appreciation of any area's cultural and historic roots. It always gives me a sense of connection to be somewhere with roots strong enough to make up for my own lack. It makes me feel like I'm living somewhere important and valuable to the world.
