Why does the Northeast get so much more snow than the Midwest?
I can only speak for Upstate and Western New York but it has to do with the lake effect. If you live near a lake, or literally on it like Buffalo, NY, the lake moisture and cold air create a lot more snow than you would get in other places. The NE winds blows it right over and dumps it quickly, making the area ripe for blizzard conditions. I'm from Buffalo so I know. :-)
