How much does it cost per month to have a pet?

Does it differ depending on which animal you have?

I try not to dwell on the cost. Bella gets fresh cooked turkey or chicken everyday in addition to her premium dry dog food. Treats are either home made or purchased at a health food store. Bella's well being and health are my first and only concern, and I focus on her diet as I do for human family members.

    Great thought question!

Pets can be expensive.  If you buy commercial pet food,it can really add up. There is the additional costs of rabies' shots, vet appointments and dog grooming costs.  Like anything else though, there is a frugal approach.  Many wise (large) dog owners agree with a hotel or restaurant to take some leftovers (rice, meats, soaps soaked with dry bread)which helps with food costs.  Preventative care, home grooming care and plenty of exercise helps keep your dog healthy and happy, cutting down on doctor bills.  The positives of having a friendly animal friend in the family, walking buddy and protector are also things that need to factor into the expense.

It depends on the pet and the quality of food and care that you are willing to give.  I have dogs (cook for my dogs also with premium dry), horses, and have raised pigs, chickens, skunks, etc, etc, but I would go without food or give them up if I could not provide a proper home.

Horses are expensive to feed and care for when you consider feed, hay, blacksmiths, worming, VETS (hopefully just for vaccines) etc and a grooming nightmare sometimes but it's all in how you look at it.

Definitely something to consider before deciding on a pet
