I guess the biggest problem I have is that we have no family or friends that would willingly look after our pets if we were to have any.
Check with a neighbor. A lot of them will trade with you. You take care of theirs and they take care of yours.
Boarding with your vet is an expense, but if you like your vet and he or she likes your dogs, then you know they are in good hands. The vet I use has a large fenced yard where a few of the dogs at a time get to run around and play with each other.
