What should I have done?
I have a female dog who gave birth to four puppies this year. Lacking financial means to feed them, I gave three puppies under adoption, but kept a puppy who is a female dog.
I took the puppy to the veterinary, but on my way, thoughts about what is right and what is wrong overwhelmed my mind, as this puppy will never have the chance to give birth to puppíes if she is sterilized, but if she is not sterilized, then, one of her puppies will have a decent life, if lucky, that´s how it is in Mexico, while the rest of the puppies will be mistreated or killed by the municipal dog pound.
SPAY THE DOG!! That is always the best choice! Unless there is a medical reason a pet can not be fixed it should always be done!! There are an estimated 500 million stray dogs in the world. We never need to add to that number unnecessarily.
I agree with Peebles. If you can afford it, get her spayed. That's a much better choice than having even one puppy end up being mistreated by someone.
I agree with 'peeples' that the dog should be spayed. Female dogs don't 'need' to give birth. In fact, un-spayed females are more likely to develop reproductive cancer than spayed ones. There are already too many unwanted pups meeting with cruelty or death. Why contribute to this situation?
I'm curious. You asked what you 'should' have done, said you were on the way to the vet when you had these thoughts, but didn't say what you did. What was your decision?
Hey unvrso you had a tough decision to make, & no matter which decision you made there would be feelings of guilt either way....In my opinion you made the logical right decision, & saved further suffering & have caused her none....You will feel the guilt hopefully of having to make that decision, & that is why you we're tested how you we're....You didn't just think you won't bother having to make that tough decision, you did it & felt the pain....Well good for you buddy, because you've just shown someone up there that your a man that cares for life....You tried to find the puppies a good home, you didn't just stick them in a bag & dump them in the river....So if you ever get any other tough decisions to make in your future life always remember, that if you do the "logical" good right or nearest thing possible then you "can't" have made the wrong decision....So you should always take your emotions & feelings out of the equation, & do the logical or next nearest thing because that's the best you can ever do buddy....So don't beat yourself up over it, because you learn't from the experience....Then you decided, to not get yourself into that situation again....Remember the old saying "two wrongs don't make a right", well it's not true....You we're sent two "wrongs" to decide from, & you learn't what was right....Which is you will be more responsible & plan more in the future, which you've already done....How else are we supposed to learn buddy, & we have to learn while we're here to get where we're going. :-)
