There's no easy answer to this. however firstly I will point out. If you want to take good to High quality video, then get a video camera. I realize in today's market many cameras offer HDR movie capabilities how much you can film with your Camera or length of time depends upon your memory card. then you have to ask about the sound quality.
If your looking for a step between a "family" camera that s fully automatic, and a full on SLR, look at a D.S.L.R by Cannon or Nikon or a great Mid / steeping stone Camera would be a Fuji HS10 that will give you professional results, is a great all rounder. No need to swap lens it has a fully Manuel control, its zoom is outstanding and you can purchase attachments / add on's like macro lens, filters and lens hood etc. THough you don't need the "add ons" So its not limiting. It also has great Automatic Presets. As you learn to go from one stage to the next stage of Photography, from fully automatic to fully Manuel controls. It gives you bang for your buck.
