   What do you think the age limit should be, when obtaining a driver's license?
   
   With so many underage accidents across the Country, should our laws change? How old should a person be once they get a license? What can our Country ( individual states) do to save more lives?

   I'm one of the few (it seems anymore) who believes 16 is still a decent age for a driver's license. The overall problem is not that our teens are too young at 16; but I think it is a lack of better training (especially for unexpected events that may come up); inexperience (better decisions are made from only more experience). I think the DL classes in schools should include one day riding with a semi drive (under the auspices of the state's DOT--the instructor could ride along from the back). I believe they should have to show proof of number of hours driven in what circumstances (snow, rain, etc.) as well as a birth certificate. I'm not including curfews here; that's not the question.

   If you are going to look into how Finnish people go about their age limit when obtaining a license, you may be surprised that they do start quite young. They are actually allowed to start even at the age of 14. The difference is that the whole process is quite long before they actually land the license they need to legally drive. So is it on the age limit? I don't think so. It does boil down to the discipline that is instilled on the aspiring driver as well as the training that they need to go through before they are allowed on the road.

   I'd say it should differ between rural and urban areas. In urban areas there are quite a few distractions, more motorists on the road, and pedestrians. In rural areas, you won't find those issues. Urban areas also have more options when it comes to mass transit.
   
   I know for my home state, Minnesota, they have laws for this. You can get your normal license at 16 but if your family are farmers, and you meet certain criteria, you can drive by yourself after completing a drivers education course at 15. You can also drive licensed farm vehicles without a license at I believe 14. This is mainly tractors and farm equipment but you can get a truck registered for farm use only.
