   What is the most outrageous driving violation you've ever witnessed?
   
   Simone's Weekly Inspiration made me remember the wackiest driving moment my husband and I ever witnessed.  On an eight lane road in Florida, we were stopped at a stop light when suddenly, the person in the FAR RIGHT lane decided to take a U-turn, on the red light across 4 lanes of traffic.  I think everyone else was so stunned we didn't even honk.
   What is the worst driving you've ever seen?  I'd love to hear some other crazy stories!

   Good grief having spent 20 years as a cab driver and 17 as a tour bus driver I could write a book!!! But the award might go to the tourist who saw the coach and pilot truck leading and decided to get ahead of them (I was driving the pilot truck). He let me pass but refused to allow the coach to pass. I pulled over and he went around me...and once again I caught up and he moved over and allowed me to pass, but still refused to allow the coach by. We were approaching a winding hill that the coach would have to gear down and brake for in order to keep from running over his  pickup and fifth wheel. (Our coaches had great hill pulling power) After three failed attempts of playing leap frog I came up with a plan to get the coach around. Needles to say we got road sign language and left him far behind as we climbed the hill.

   Probably lunatics wittering away on their mobile phones whilst driving.  Or those drivers who can't hold a conversation without turning to the passenger to speak.

   Driving on the sidewalk... seriously.  Where I live I see people do it all the time.  I've even see someone do it when I was living downtown.  Since when was the sidewalk a street for cars to drive on?

   I have to aggregate all of the outrageous driving violations I've witnessed with these words: "Talking on the cell phone." It is the single most dangerous thing to do because it takes one's mind off the task at hand: safe driving.

      That reminds me. There's a commercial for a cell phone that includes a scene of a young man driving while simultaneously showing his passenger a picture on it. From the movement of objects out his window I'd say he was doing about thirty MPH.

   Probably a combination of cutting city buses off (so stupid) and charging at pedestrians who were legally crossing the street just to scare them.

   I like to ride my bike to provincial parks.  While I was biking home a car pulled up beside me and matched my speed.  I was in a lane for bicycles and they were in a car lane.  After getting close to me they started going back and forth.  They would quickly speed up then put on the brakes before going in reverse.  So they were speeding some of the time, braking hard at times, and going in reverse some of the time.  I could smell burning rubber.
   
   My guess is that they were trying to scare me.  I was not scared of them but I was ready to get off the road if they went into my lane.  Luckily no one drove into them.  Other drivers are not going to expect someone to be driving in reverse.  If I had a phone I would have called the police.
   
   When I was in Quebec I saw lots of people driving on the sidewalk to get around someone but I don't think that is as bad as driving in reverse at a high rate of speed when another car could show up at anytime.

   My favorite was two guys in a corvette going south-bound on the 405 (that's in Los Angeles). The driver decided to floor it, with cars all around him, and ended up spinning the coupe 180 degrees. When he came to a stop he was facing traffic. By some miracle he wasn't hit and no one hit him.
   
   It was a thrilling sight.

   Well, once we pulled up to a bunch of guys that were practically falling out of their truck because their side doors were missing.
   
   And also, when I was in a taxi a while back, a truck driver was driving towards us in the same lane (in a tunnel). That was pretty disturbing.

    A bunch of kids talking on cells hit an elderly lady who was driving slower than normal. Then, when the wreck came to a stand still, the girl got out and yelled at this poor woman. When the police arrived, everyone sided with the old woman but it was still the most ridiculous and uncalled for moment I have ever witnessed first hand.

    I have many but the one that sticks out to me is a redhead that brushed her hair forward over her face...repeatedly while entering an on ramp for the highway. I could not see her face but she was going at least 40 and brushing her hair repeatedly over her face. Perhaps the volume of her hair was more important than seeing the road?

    While driving on a highway in New Hampshire, we were mooned by a young lady in the back seat of a small Honda Civic passing us.  Now this wasn't really terribly outrageous at the time.  I was mildly amused and my wife was disgusted. 
    But the real amazing part was revealed to us months later while watching a real notorious murder trial on TV, where the testimony revealed that a mooning stunt was pulled on the highway just about the time it happened to us.  We were totally at a loss for words......

    I was coming to my office this morning and heard a tier cry at my right side. I horribly say the moment that a car has suddenly changed the lane to right and hit a ricksaw (pedicab) from behind.
    
    I saw the pedicab driver flying in air and fall on the ground and somersaulting. It was too scary to see the accident. My bus passed away and I did not see more.
    
    I wish every driver become more responsible and concern about abiding traffic rules.

    I've seen a drunk driver driving through peoples' lawns. I've seen people on cell phones nearly drive off 30+ foot ditches a few times. I've seen people driving well over 100mph through relatively heavy traffic.

    I live in Indianapolis. Anybody who lives here may understand why I need to precede my statement with that.
    
    One time my husband and I were driving on the FREEWAY and witnessed a POLICE OFFICER stop in the middle of fast-moving traffic and then BACK UP. On the freeway. Yup. That's the most outrageous thing I've seen in traffic. Is it a violation if a cop does it? lol

       Wow. I see police officer's changing lanes with no signals at high and low speeds, turn on their lights just to get through a red light, and other nonsense, but this one takes the cake. They are never wrong in their own eyes though.

    The most outrageous driving habits of people where I come from (the capital city of my province, no less) is people going in opposite directions stopping beside each other in the middle of a busy intersection to roll down their windows and talk ... just because they hadn't seen each other in a few weeks/months. (Whaaat?) No signal lights, no flashers, nothing. Just roll down the window and blab for five minutes.
    
    People do things they don't realize are very dangerous!
    
    The one most dangerous thing I ever was personally a witness to ... was when I had to bum a ride off this elderly lady - she asked the woman beside her to let her know if anyone was coming at an intersection where visibility was absolutely clear. It was then that I realized that this woman was visually impaired - even with thick glasses. I gave her a large number phone for Christmas a couple of weeks later, and she enjoyed it so much that she thought, "You know, maybe I need to get my eyes checked." She did, and they took her license away from her - she was legally blind!

       Great story Judy!  My father-in-law had Alzheimer's and we had a doctor's orders for his license to be taken away.  However, when he died and we were going through his things, we found a new, valid license!

    I watched an employee slowly pull into our parking lot reading a book propped against the steering wheel. When he parked, he put his book down and picked up a cereal bowl from his lap and finished his cereal. This moron also bragged to me that he was able to continue shingling his roof by wrapping the cord of a utility light around his head so he could work hands free. When I asked him what did he think would happen if he slipped off the roof, he just blinked at me. Hadn't occurred to him. On another day, this same guy overtook me on the main avenue in town in his pickup. Two of his little kids were bouncing around in the back.

    I once came across a woman parked in the middle of a residential intersection. Her car was completely stopped, smack dab in the center of two intersecting roads. A blast from the horn sent her on her way. She was, of course, talking on her phone. I suppose I should be thankful that she decided to STOP before she gabbed, but there are better places to do it, yes?
