Search Engine Optimization

Obviously the title of my post is a reference to Hunter S. Thompson. He is one of my favorite writers. His written works have helped shape the history of politics and consciousness of the people during his time and up to today.

So what is my point in calling Search Engine Optimization or SEO as decadent or depraved?

Well, nowadays, there is a lot of focus on SEO and the internet has been filled with so much spam and articles with keyword stuffing. Many of the articles are no longer even helpful. Most websites and blog posts are ranking even without relevance, as if the articles are all about page views and clicks on the ads just to get profit from affiliate marketing programs such as Google Adsense or Amazon.

It is as if writers of the world are learning to write in quantity instead of quality when in reality, the sites that focus more on quality are the ones that are really ranking and the ones that people take time in reading. I, myself, and I am sure most of you no longer even read articles or click on websites when we know that they are just SEO articles. There are many topics and keywords that have lost relevant articles and are all just links and ads and backlinks and all these other concepts that exist in the realm of Search Engine Optimization.

There is money in blogging, and of course people are taking advantage of this. I am not saying it is wrong. What I am saying is that we have been shying away from real quality writing and bloggers and writers of the world are losing appreciation of the free medium of information that is the internet. The internet is a place where we can publish for free, for all the world to see. Articles published online are mostly free of charge and at the same time is automatically global.

Blackhat SEO

Many website owners and bloggers are now informed about SEO or Search Engine Optimization. They are using the different SEO techniques to ensure page rankings in search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, and many others. They build on backlinks and interlinking and many other search engine optimization concepts. But mostly, spam ping for blogging is what they use to ping search engines and blog directories and bookmarking sites endlessly to continuously confuse the databases of search engines. Now, the real problems don't lie in just the complex algorithms of search engines but also how people are using SEO to increase the Traffic of Your Blog.

A QUOTE FROM JEAN-PAUL SARTRE

"Every age has its own poetry; in every age the circumstances of history choose a nation, a race, a class to take up the torch by creating situations that can be expressed or transcended only through poetry." - Jean-Paul Sartre

Keyword Stuffing

The use of keywords in blogging or in permalinks are used not only to increase the traffic of one's website or blog but also for greater chances of being ranked in search engines such as Google or Yahoo. Now, this is done mostly because of Google Adsense and how it uses keywords in figuring out a page's relevance to a search query. There are many people who are thinking of putting ads in their blog and they have been figuring out that Google Adsense is a perfect tool that can earn a lot of money for views and clicks. They surely know how to use Google Adsense to their advantage.

There are a lot of bloggers on the internet that are making money just by blogging and getting a lot of traffic in their site. They go on bookmarking websites, social networking websites, create backlinks, create interlinking pages, they use keywords and many other techniques. Goolge, a search engine, cannot distinguish from darkness or light or from signal to noise, it is not an intelligent being, it is merely a program that is designed to use these techniques to look for results that are supposedly relevant. For example do you know how to download torrent files?
