I think the word architect relates to a designer or the one who conceptualizes while craftman means the person who actually made the product using the tools.
Compare the architect of a building to masons who actually built.
But many times the architect and the craftman roles can played by the same person - as in handicrafts, painting, writing and many other arts.
A craftman is normally someone who works in the creation of the house or building such as human labor. Putting up walls, installing floor boards, electricity. An architect only plans these and creates the idea for the building.
An architect draws a vision..........
A CRAFTSMAN, acutally many, Craftsmen, give it life make it safe, make it work, and make it work safely.
Those diverse skills, welders, concrete men, bricksmen, plumbing guys, video, and audio people, make it BE.
Without them.........those skilled tradesmen, it is just a pipe dream. It is just a drawing that an artist drew.
Do you put the safety of your family on the drawing.......or the tradesmen who brought the drawing to life?
You, tell me, where is your family, standing, sitting.........on a seat, on a gurder, on a beam, on a wall, on a footing,............or on a drawing?
The "craftsmen" make the drawing workable, doable, and safe........
Depends on what century you are taking the words from. Until the the nineteenth century, there was very difference. The modern architect is a person licensed by the state to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the public. He might know something about being a craftsman, but it is no longer a requirement of the profession.
