What are some basic mistakes you made early on here on Hubpages or just in writing in general?

Also, what have you done to correct them? I find myself rushing content. I admit I am impatient and not a fan of revision. My first Hub I sat down with the laptop and pounded it out in about 20 minutes. Sometimes, it flows like that. I just tend to want to do that all the time. I usually have to go back, add content, change titles, etc. So many thoughts of how it could have been better, more specific or just simple errors. So, I am trying to not put something out just to put something out and be a little more deliberate in the revision process when  possible.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make as you begin your writing career is not take the time to edit your hub BEFORE you publish it. A hub filled with grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors diminishes your credibility as a writer, even if you are very knowledgeable about your subject.

One way to make sure your hub is as error free as you can get it is to write the first draft in MS Word or whatever text editor you use. After you're done, put it away. Come back to it several hours or even a day later and re-read it carefully. You'll more than likely find errors that you missed first time around and make additional changes as needed. Once you're satisfied with it, copy and paste it into HubPages, review it one more time, and then publish it.

This approach may take a little longer, but in the end, the extra time you take to make sure your hub is error-free will have been worth it.

Probably one of the simplest mistakes most new hubbers make (myself included) is not having their hubs laid out correctly.  If you are wanting to simply have readers, or if adsense revenue is important, layout is key.

Most new writers do not add headers and sub headers to break up their content.  They also do not keep their first text box above all photos and long enough to accomodate an adsense box.

Lastly, use as many of the different types of capsules you can..  RSS, Links, Video included.

My biggest writing error was not here at Hubpages, but rather in style when I first started writing.  I would overwrite.  It took a long time to learn that often less is more.  Adjectives CAN be overused.

Trying to do things unnaturally to get more followers. Read a hub I wrote called How New Hubbers Ruin Their Hubscore.
