Explaining indexing, among other things
Hi, I am new to Hubpages. Can one (or many) explain to me how indexing works, how you can tell if you have been indexed, what the "24" hours wait period means before being indexed means, the googlebot, and anything else you think would be helpful ing etting published and indexed in various search engines
I'm no expert, but here's my understanding; google has a thing called crawlers, they go around on the web and make connections with what's out there and what's getting searched; when your stuff makes connection, you get indexed. It's good to have content that will get searched and crawled. On Hubpages, when you publish a Hub, it goes through a 24 hour "trial" period in which it has to be checked; by computer algorithms and people to see if it qualifies to be "featured"; so, during this time before it is featured, it is a no-follow, meaning it won't get indexed. As soon as it's Featured, it can be indexed. Later, if it fails to get traffic, it can be taken off of the featured status and you got to edit it to bring it to life. The easiest way I know of to see if it's indexed is to search for it on Google. My understanding is that if it comes up in search results, it's indexed. I think you can use Webmaster tools to find out too, not sure. You can submit your page to Webmaster Tools too, to get indexed faster. Of course, I've read in places some people don't think it's a good idea. Anyone is free to correct me if I'm wrong about any of that. It's my understanding so far.
Ok! Thank you. That clears up a lot. Do you know anything about if your hub gets traffic before the 24 period on hubpages, that Google won't index it for several days? I've read several forums on that, but nothing is really clear.
I'm not exactly certain about that one, except I know it still takes time for Google to index your content, no matter what. The content's got to be crawled, and it takes some time for that to happen.

I do not know if this is the right place to post this question, since I do not know if this is a tech or other question, I just know that something is wrong with my latest hub, (written a week ago) in my Google search, it came up in the results, in a totally different -(not mine)- hub, ...

I've always used Hubpages as a place to put orphan viral content; usually time-sensitive trending topics that might get a lot of views in a week, then die off. I published a hub like this over 48 hours ago, but it still hasn't been indexed, despite me pinging and tweeting it. Just wondering how...
