Why does Hubpages need this when I go to set up my earnings options? I'm a little concerned about this as it's dealing with sensitive information, especially since Hubpages is obviously not an IRS or tax company site. The only reason I can think of is for income tax purposes, but beyond that, I don't see why I would need to send my tax info.
I recently joined Hubpages a couple days ago, and I don't have that many articles up yet (only 2 as of writing this), plus I don't expect to be earning much when first starting out.
I think this answers your question: http://hubpages.com/faq/#whytaxinfo
