Mine is Jean Auel, author of the Earth Children series; Clan of the Cave Bear was first, then five books after that. Just got the last one, it's huge.

All my favorite writers are dead... Jane Austen, Albert Camus, James Baldwin, Shakespeare, F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I do like many living authors but they are not my favorites.

It's half and half for me - half my favourite writers are dead. The other half are still alive, obviously.

Of the writers I've listed above, Harold Robbins and Iris Murdoch are dead, Jackie Collins and Jilly Cooper are still alive.

Could fill a page on this topic. I am a big fan of Charles Dickens (deceased), one of my all time favourite works being A Tale of Two Cities. In modern times, I prefer thriller writers, particularly Dick Francis (deceased), John Francome and Peter Robinson.

Gotta agree with Dean Koontz - great stories and fantastic prose.  All the great sci-fi classic authors like Asimov and A.C. Clark.  And all the Travis McGee novels by John D. MacDonald.

Issac Asimov is my favorite.  I'm reading the Robot Series and the Foundation Series of his books.
