Did you know that today, 21st September is International Peace Day, a global day of ceasefire. This annual event has been occurring since 1982, when the UN made this statement about the day:
"Peace Day should be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples…This day will serve as a reminder to all peoples that our organization, with all its limitations, is a living instrument in the service of peace and should serve all of us here within the organization as a constantly pealing bell reminding us that our permanent commitment, above all interests or differences of any kind, is to peace.”
A day worth remembering, with some messages worth passing on I think. Here are two of my favourite quotes about peace:
Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.
~ Martin Luther King
Mother Theresa: “I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there.”
I’d love to hear yours! Let’s spread some peace.
