   Here is what famous author Louise L Hay has to say, and I can only concur with her views:
   
   "How your thoughts work" should be the most essential topic.
   
   This should be followed by subjects such as: How to Handle Finances.  How to Invest Money for Financial Security.  How to Be a Parent.  How to Create Good Relationships.  How to Create and Maintain Self-Esteem and Self-Worth.
   
   Memorizing battle dates et cetera would be out.  What's the point in wasting time learning such things.   The whole education system would be designed to putting out happy, well adjusted young adults.

   Rethink tenure, as well as reevaluate the management and supervision of teachers so that poor teachers are not automatically given a "pass," and are able to stay within the public school systems “carte blanche.”
   
   Also, put more emphasis on actually applying knowledge and performance assessments.

   Good question - in many countries a lot of schools are failing. I work a lot in the informal education sector where education aims to draw out and develop people, rather than stuffing their brains full of facts. This approach can work well with disengaged students.
   
   Also, every trainer knows there are at least four different leanring styles. Yet schools only cater for theoretical learning. There should be more options for 'hands-on' learners. Maybe you could have different classes for different learning styles instead of throwing everyone in together, and then blaming the students who don't learn as 'stupid'.

   Try and get teachers to inpire children and get them to love learning. The best teachers do that, but my experience is they are very few and far between.

    Re-institute the track system in all schools. The concept of mixing slow students with higher achievers is contrary to academic excellence.
    Emphasize early American history. Maybe if today's college students knew who wrote our Constitution and why, they might contribute to American society. Don't get me wrong, there are thousands of intelligent college students, but then there are plenty of college grads that can't name 2 things Thomas Jefferson did in his life or 5 of the many accomplishments of Benjamin Franklin.

    Lower class sizes.  This gives teachers the opportunity to work more closely with each student.  It also lowers their grading load, parent contact load, paper work load...you get the picture.  I've taught classes with 36 students and classes with 12 students.  I made much more progress with the classes that had less students.  That's were we should be throwing our money.  More teachers teaching fewer students.  It's hard to lose sight of a kid when there are so few of them in class.  Everyone gets a chance to be heard and helped.

    REMOVE POLITICS FROM EDUCATION.  POLITICS HAS SHOWN NO LONG TERM INTEREST IN THE GREATER GOOD.  THEY GET DISTRACTED BY LOOKING BACK INSTEAD OF FORWARD.  THIS MIGHT BE THE TIME FOR COMMUNITIES TO CONSTRUCT AND FINANCE THEIR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD EDUCATION SYSTEM.  THESE ARE AFTER ALL OUR CHILDREN. THE ONLY FUTURE WE CAN INVEST IN IS NOW.
