I think the future is bleak in terms of morals. But there will be advancement in technology. Depreciation of the earth will continue. Etc
above all, the end of this system of things is at hand!
Devastation, mutilation, retaliation, and hopefully a nice zombie apocalypse.
I don't see a very bright future for mankind.
We have over populated to the point that the planet can no longer sustain us with roughly 7 Billion today on a planet that can support around 4 Billion. The population continues to grow at an accelerated rate and soon there will be 9 Billion.
But the planet is breaking down and mans greed is continuing to grow.
The countless fishes in the seas, lakes and rivers now have numbers and in every case those numbers are declining.
Rain forests are being cut down at such a rate that pollution from the fires account for 1/3 of the greenhouse gasses. People are fighting for food and soon they will be fighting for water. The great herds of African are no more, just as the great herds of bison are no more in the US.
Americans, largely, will continue to allow the population to keep growing even though it is well within our means to control it. US citizens reached ZPG in 1999 at 255 million the remaining difference between then and the 330 million we have today is entirely immigration, which we continue to allow. If Americans all spent a year living in one of the vastly overpopulated countries like India or Bangladesh they would shut off immigration tomorrow. But ignorance is bliss.
There are a couple of ways that this can end. One would be if AIDS or something similar mutates into something more contagious, highly likely. Another is WW3 or more specifically terrorists getting hold of nuclear weapons who are stupid enough to think they can somehow win, also likely. A natural disaster like a mega volcano, it will happen and is a matter of when not if.
Personally I think that man will be his own end by one means or another.
One thing is certain. The planet will go on with or without us and there will be new life and new threats to that life. Mankind has come very close to extinction before and will again.
One day there may well be another race of man, or something else poking through what is left behind and making great discoveries about how ancient man, that would be us, lived and died.

This is a topic I am forever mulling over in my curious mind; I'm just as curious to know what everybody else thinks about this? Where will we be as a race in 500 years time? Will we still be here? Will we have achieved colonization of the moon, Mars etc? Will wars still be waged?I'm interested in...

What are your thoughts on this...don't you think the money used to feed war could have been used to feed people instead.

With a combination of dire apocalyptic predictions of a third World War and Armageddon scenarios going around, balanced by a lot of optimistic and mystical claims ranging from the planet going into a new "density" to there even a new Earth being created, I am wondering what you all think...
