Summer and Homeschooling, do you agree ?
Do you think that children should do some tutoring and homeschooling during the summer break ?
I've written several hubs on home school (check them out) and home schooled my daughter from start to finish (first grade thru high-school). We had school every day and all year around. I wrote the curriculum myself, so it was not tedious like in formal public/private schools. Learning should be fun.
I think you lose much of the advantages of home school when you use a boughten curriculum and imagine you are restricted to an 8-5, M-F, Sept.-June schedule. Be creative. Home school is your chance to give your child a better education than s/he would get in public or private school. Tailor your schedule and your program to your child and your family. Tailer the curriculum to your child.
I homeschool my daughter and we do work in the summer, when she is basically out of school. I sneak them in on her and she usually doesn't even realize it.
I think that you are talking about giving your public schooled child tutoring during the summer though. Some kids have problems with math and forget how to do the problems during the school break. A page of practice problems once a week won't hurt and might save them from having a worse time in the following year.
Yes, exactly, some children forgot about what they did in the school year after the summer break...Once or twice a week do something like some exercices to remeber what they did in the year could be a solution, in fact ! Thanks for opinion !
never. kids should have the summer to be kids. it sickens me when i see people wanting to stop this. forcing kids to be educated like that all the time is just wrong. we have a hard enough time keeping kids in school so how is adding the amount they have to go going to help?you can teach your kids all the time without schooling them just by asking them questions and by doing things with them.
I have the same opinion about the education of children with questions, etc.
In fact, I think that the best way to keep children learn is do enable them play and discover interesting things maybe in summer break but not with a conventional tutoring

Do you think it is better to home school children or to allow them to attend public school? My sister is home schooling her daughter. I think it's a great option for parents who can do it but I think it could have some drawbacks on her daughter's social development.

What are some pros and cons for homeschooling your child?I've noticed in my adult years that quite a bit of what's being taught in some schools is inaccurate information. Some of this bad information was not unlearned until I went to college. Some I am still trying to unlearn. So I would like to...

Is summer break too long for students in the US?Would lengthening the school year be beneficial to students or add more stress to the student's life?
