   Do You Find It Ironic That Wifi is Free in Capitalist Countries, But Is Very Expensive in Cuba?
   
   Communism is supposed to provide for everyone at no cost, but in Communist Cuba wifi is a luxury that is far out of reach for the average Cuban.  Whereas, in Capitalist countries, not matter how hard up one is, they can get free wifi in many places.  They just need a device that can connect to wifi.  Do you find this ironic that the for profit system is delivering free service, when a central controlled economy charges huge fees for the same service?

   Capitalist countries equal freedom, innovation and efficiency. Communist countries (the few that are left...) put up nothing but barriers to a better life.  Hopefully that will change very soon for all the Cuban people.  Here's hoping for a much more free 21st Century.

   Communists governments often limit the flow of information, so it's not surprise that connecting to the Internet is expensive in Cuba. Keeping wifi out of reach for most people is an excellent way to limit the flow of information about what's going on in the world.

   I wouldn't be so quick to criticise Cuba's economic system or freedom of speech. US policy and the US embargo have ensured difficulty in this area.
   
   From my hub on the Benefits of Socialism in Cuba - "America has ensured that underwater communications cables do not pass near Cuba’s shores. Instead, Cubans have to connect their phones and computers via satellites that are expensive and slow. Thankfully, Venezuela has agreed to set up a cable into Havana which will improve capacity."
   
   Furthermore, as the computer market has been dominated by US firms, the embargo has meant difficulty in obtaining basic hardware.

   I've visited a Communist country, and they certainly do not provide for everyone at no cost. I was in Russia during Perestroika (before the rise of so-called "free enterprise" and the Russian Mafia), and there may have been the assurance of jobs and medical care, but there were no retirement systems and no provision for a person to have an income of any kind after retirement. People were still expected to pay their own personal bills. I saw people in their late 80s working. So NO, it is not surprising or ironic that the communist country of Cuba does not provide free wifi.
   In our capitalistic country free wifi helps to sell more devices. If it were not beneficial to the capitalists and the industrialists, it would not be free here.

   Internet has brought many benefits to people. It is clear if you want to keep people stupid, you cut them of from connecting to others and censure them. Maybe you should watch Citizenfour. That might refresh your memory where free wifi is leading to.
   
   Funny that you're talking about Cuba, while China, as the most populated country on earth, censures internet. Yes, they have free wifi in China, and you could call China a capitalistic country.
   
   Capitalism is increasingly turning into a suppressing system like George Orwell perfectly described. Only technology made this possible, that ironically is created in the free capitalistic West. Orwell needed no internet to understand were capitalism would lead to. It clearly leads to something similar as the USSR.
   
   Freedom is not in your gadgets, it's in your head.
