    There are a lot of Scientologists who aren't famous at all.  But Scientology makes a point of chasing after celebrities so that 1) they can get a lot of money from them (since you have to pay for all sorts of stuff from their church and donate a lot too) and 2) it works very well for getting them publicity too.

    I think in some cases, definitely more money than sense. But also, there seems to be a bit of 'sheep' culture amongst celebs, where if one has done it, so many others do. So many people like Tom Cruise and John Travolta, they are willing to do the same things (a bit like teenage girls wanting the latest Katy Perry fashion accessory). It doesn't help that these celebs also help to promote the positives so much, people tend to bypass the negatives and forget they are there. I think Katie Holmes and Suri have escaped at the right time.
