Is there a life story that you have read/heard/watched that has impacted your life?

Biographies of famous people can be interesting and informative.  Have you ever come across one that has touched your heart, taught you something you did not know, changed your life or made you change your opinion of the person?

Yes, it is the real story of Jill Bolte Taylor, neuroscientist who had a stroke that disabled her left brain.   And she gain insight into the fact the right brain is the origins of tranquility.   It teaches us that we do not have to have a stroke to try to access that part of the brain that is the origin of feeling of peace.

I wrote about her book and YouTube video here ...

There are two;  1.  Stephen King.  He inspired me with how fast he writes and how he struggled with poverty while writing and how Carrie came to be;  his wife finding it in the trash because he didn't like what he had written.  All those rejections and Carrie gives him the notoriety he needed.

    2.  Beverly Donofrio's Riding in Cars with Boys.  I exchanged words with her because her life story was so similar to mine and to see it on paper and then a movie, inspired me to do what I love.  She was the one who told me;  Write, write, write, and pushed how rewrites have to be done but eventually you have to let the piece go and never look back.

You must have read Stephen King's "On Writing".  Hist story is inspiring to all writers even if his chosen genre is not.  I'm so glad you found a motivator and mentor in Beverly!

What an excellent question. When I was in my teens there was a beautiful woman named Aurora in our neighborhood. One day, she got badly hit by a truck that paralyzed her completely. Decades passed and she was still on life support, but her whole family tirelessly took turns taking care of her, feeding, bathing, loving her in every way possible.

Her brother and sister had to pick extra jobs to keep Aurora alive on life support, but  alas, no miracle happened. The real miracle, however, was that Aurora's family was around her to the bitter end.  And for me, her memory and  her life-long struggle is a constant reminder to always count my blessings, no matter what.

That is a heart warming story!  The dedication of an entire family is remarkable.  I always think after reading something like that, that no matter how bad I think I have it, someone else is always worse off.  Thanks for sharing!

I have never heard, read, or seen a story that has hit my life, although some may have had an effect on it.

The story of Team Hoyt really touched me. It's the story of the father who ran the Iron Man Triathalon while carrying and pushing his disabled son all because it was something his son wanted to do but was unable to do on his own. For me it was a demonstration of the love that parents have for their children and the lengths that they go through to make their dreams come true. It really made me want to strive to be an even better parent to my children.

It is true, we will move mountains for our children.  I am so glad to see so many people gaining strength from other people's stories.

Me too. I think it's heart when we can be moved and learn from others.
