   What advice would you give to a plain girl who has talent and wants to go into the entertainment
   
   business, an area in which beauty is paramount in terms of success?  Would you discourage her from even thinking about entering into show business?  Also, do you feel that women/girls who are plain have a scant chance of success in the medium as opposed to an extremely beautiful woman/girl?  Give analytical answers please.

   There are plenty of "plain girls" working in the entertainment industry as signers and actresses.  If you have chops, someone will find you a stylist and the rest is history.  I would tell her to work hard at developing her talents and learn the tricks of dressing for her body and bone structure.

      This.  Most "beautiful" women by media standards are quite ordinary looking without all the makeup, lighting and Photoshop.  "Beauty" is an illusion.

   I used to be a costume designer for stage, and let me tell you, most of the women I worked on were not beauties when they walked through the door! It's the job of a costume designer and makeup artist to turn them into beauties, if that's what a script calls for. It's much more important to be smart, a quick study, and a good personality than it is to be a stunner.
   
   The drawback to being a woman in entertainment is that there are fewer opportunities for women than there are for men. Women, on average, get significantly less screen and stage time when compared to men.
   
   And, realistically, the Screen Actor's Guild has a steady 97% unemployment rate. At any given time, only 3% of its members manage to find work in their field.

   Actually, most famous people were never beautiful, until they were discovered and "remade." Plenty of famous people have been completely average-looking, and it's their innate talent that pushes them to the top of the list. Talent, after all, is the main thing. Everything else come after that..
