I would have to say Gallagher is my all time favorite. If you've ever been to or watched one of his shows on video you might agree. He has this way of poking fun at society, but keeping it real at the same time. One classic line and I do quote and believe was from his "Watermelon Crazy"tour in the mid-late 80's was,"What is with these woman that shave their eyebrows off........................only to turn around and paint them back on.?????Why? Would they do this?"Gallagher is very creative, artistically and in comedy. My understanding is that he designs and builds his own props and stage sets.If I was to attend a Gallagher show live,"Forget the plastic shield for his Sledge-a-matic routine I want it all!"Hey it's an instant token to remember the show by.For those of you who don't know about the Sledge-A-Matic routine it's the part of the show where he takes this modified Giant sledgehammer and smashes anything from item's such as ketchup packets and full cream rinse bottles to full size watermelons which is always the finale. If you haven't already checked these out,go to your nearest video store and  rent "Gallagher Watermelon Crazy",also be sure to check out "Gallagher Stuck in the 70's."

Back in the day there were quite a few comedians who were worth seeing in a live performance.

Bill Cosby is one of my all-time favorites.  I've only seen him in concert once.  Some don't like him because he's too G-rated, but his facial expressions and stories are really funny.  One of my favorite sayings he uses is about parenting and the theory that if you brought a child into this world, you have the right to take them out.

May he Rest in Peace, George Carlin was a great comedian and very smart.  He was pretty graphic and controversial in his day.

Arj Barker is wonderful, I couldn't pick a specific performance but instead would like to suggest a few great comedians for you to peruse....danny bhoy, tripod (for a talented musical style piece), adam hills, will anderson, etc.

As a child I was taken to the London Palladium to see Jack Benny  - I have never forgotten his opening - and can laugh now at the memory.  He came on the stage from the left and stood there with a microphone.  The audience went wild, just to see him.......and he stood.......and stood.......and turned his head left, then right, slowly........lifted his chin......and turned his head and just looked, expressionless.  Now, why was that, two or three miniutes of just that, so funny?  I don't know, but it was one of the funniest occasions I have ever seen.  A natural comic genius!  God Bless him.

I have seen a lot of stand up comedy specials on Cable, and I have also seen some pretty good local comics as well. I have seen a lot of the old George Carlin shows. He was very funny, and, he could take something as simple as getting on an an air plane and turn it into a joke...as in. You can get on the plan if you want to...but, I'm getting in the plane! He also had a good bit about the pre-boarding...as in you can pre-suck my genitalia!

Another comedian I like is Jeff Foxworthy. He just says so much off the wall crap. Some of it is easy to get, while there are some things that he says at you have to think about for a minute. His redneck stuff gets a bit repetitive, but, he always throws in something you didn't suspect.

Like body hair removal should be a punishment in our judicial system...and, If We catch you back in jail again, we're going to have to give you a butt wax too!....Butt Wax? But, you have to hear the whole thing to get what he's talking about.

I also liked Steve Martin and Bill Cosby growing up.

unfortunately, most of the comics I LOVE have passed away. however, I will mention them out of total respect and being trailblazers. never a doubt, Carlin, Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor, Lenny Bruce and my BEST, Mitch Hedberg!
I would recommend, for a guaranteed phenomenal show...Arj Barker, Anthony Jeselnik, Daniel Tosh, Lee Camp, Jim Gaffigan, Bo Burnham, Stephen Lynch, Marc Maron...that's all I can think of off the top of my head!

Chris Rock, Daniel Tosh and though he kinda doesn't count Stephen Colbert. Too young to know Carlin, Cosby or even Eddie Murphy though.
