    What goes well with Onions?

I was wondering what food combinations are popular using onions. I want to make something new.

In my house the better question would be what doesn't go with onions! We cook onions in almost every meal. I add fresh onions in salads. I cook them with every meat, often adding them into homemade gravy. Dice them or slice them and saute with butter then you can mix into either homemade or store bought gravies. You can also caramelize them and just put them on top of things like steak or hamburgers. They are great when added to spaghetti sauce. They even taste good when mixed in with home made mac and cheese. Really there are very few meals that can't use some onions.

    Just about everything!
From fried potatoes with onions, scrambled eggs or omelets, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, used in crock pots with roast beef, in meatloaf, salads, salsa recipes, and in fact many recipes call for the use of onions especially Mexican, Italian, and Cuban dishes.

Salmon, chicken, beef, pork, hamburger, cheese, just about any vegetable the onion is very versatile it grills, fry's, saute's can be pressure cooked and steamed. It really is one of the most versatile ingredients and adds flavor to gravies etc.

Salmon can be micro waved with chopped onion crushed garlic a little olive oil and herbs such as Tarragon, Oregano, Basil, Rosemary, Thyme just choose a herb and try it it takes about a Minute or so for a single portion.

Once you use your imagination the possibilities are almost endless. Do not fixate on a single recipe and treat them as guides not precise instructions many ingredients can be substituted or varied to change the nature of a dish. Try mixing things up a bit you will probably be pleasantly surprised. Cooking is like painting it is a science and art in one though.

I love onions and use them all the time. My favorites are the sweet onion and the red onion. Chop a large sweet onion up and add chopped mushrooms, olive oil, butter, onion powder and garlic powder and saute on medium heat for about 15 minutes. I pour this over baked or grilled chicken and rice. You can pour it over any meat and be heavenly satisfied!
