Anyone got tips on how to convert impressions into clicks?

Try to write towards an audience that is more likely to click. For instance if your writing is aimed at people who are internet savvy, chances are they are less likely to click adverts. That means you might need twice as many impressions to get a click.

Also - try and write on topics with relevant advertising. Chances are that a hub on "Electric Tree Planters" won't get much relevant advertising, since it is so specific a niche with few advertisers. However a hub with keywords related to "Romantic Flowers" will probably have very relevant ads for sites such as flower sellers online.

Also, if you want to convert amazon views into sales - reviews and hubs about specific items are more likely to make you money. I'm personally trying to avoid reviews till I run out of other topics!

As others have said, the key is in the subjects you choose.

I rarely write "selling" Hubs, but I do try to think of a selling angle for the topic I want to write about.

It's hard to think what a person would want to buy on a Hub about the Forth Road Bridge, for instance.  Whereas you might get clicks on a Hub about touring holidays in that region of Scotland.

You have a Hub on making your own solar panels, but the Adsense ads are all for solar panel installers. Obviously, your readers aren't going to be interested in those ads.  You would be better to put an Amazon capsule for solar panel kits in your top right-hand spot (the best spot for ads).  Or write a ebook on the subject and sell it yourself!

thanks Marissa, I have done as you suggested on my hub about solar panels-- the Forth Rail Bridge hub i wrote, is put alongside my other hubs on Scotland, i don't expect to make money from that one, just draw people to read my other Scotland hubs.-- your comments are always welcome.

Oops, I see I wrote Forth Road Bridge!

I was thinking, I would start the Rail Bridge Hub with the sentence "The Forth Rail bridge is the longest cantilever rail bridge in the world...."

and include some books from Amazon on the wonders of engineering.

For the solar panels - adding a couple of ads is OK, but I think you could go a lot further.  Amazon also has books on how to solar-power your house.  And you could offer a few more specifics on how to get started.

You also need to think of these as just examples.  You need to take the same approach on ALL your Hubs, and be prepared to dig a bit deeper to find items to sell that are truly relevant to your subject, if the Adsense ads aren't attracting clicks.

Amazon ads only make sales if the items are directly relevant to the text.

Maybe some of the pros on here will have a better answer for you. In my experience, there are three things that you can do to help your AdSense CTR: appearance, placement and relevancy.

We don't have the option of mucking with the placement or appearance of the ads, but you can use keywords/tags to ensure that the ads that do appear are relevant to your subject matter.

Personally, I think some topics are better suited for an audience that will click on ads than others, and I'm sure you'll discover that as you go.

I also believe in withholding some information. After all, if you give them all of the information that they need, why do they need to click on an ad? I have absolutely nothing to back that up--just a suspicion. smile

It's very easy - you need to target people who are looking to buy something, but you don't actually sell it (but your advertisers do).

    Sneaky, but it works.

Agree with Dan, informational Hubs can bring in a bit of cash, but sales hubs can draw in sales and adsense clicks.

Grab the attention of your readers by giving them something interesting with quality content, make them stay a while in your hubs when they visit you-that will do the trick smile
