Already we're seeing negative reactions to this PLANNED event (it hasn't even happened yet and people are lashing out and justifiably so).

What about when THEY burn our flag? Is that okay? Does book burning make violence justified? Just to let you know, I'm against the book burning, but I'm also very against violence.

If this moron so called preacher had not planned this, that guy would still be alive. You are seeing the tip of the iceberg if the Quran is burned. You have seen NOTHING yet.

Book burning is retarded, no matter who does it.

Is our flag a religious symbol? I hope it isn't.

Whether the flag is a religious symbol or the Quran is a political symbol makes no difference. It was intended to be retaliation for something some jerk claimed he was going to do at some future time.

Cheney did it. He may or may not have had Arab involvement. Certainly they never went after Bin Laden, whose family had ties to the Bush family in business. Don't you think that is a bit fishy, Hunter? No pun intended. smile

I have repeatedly posted that Islam is not just a religion.   They equate the Koran with our FLAG.   NOT the Bible.

In symbolism, Islam is not a religion, it is the whole of life,  the all controlling, all pervading ideology.

Why can so few grasp it when it is demonstrated clearly,  world wide, daily?

Many neocons equate the flag with religion. You know that. It isn't right but Palin wraps herself in the flag and wants wars based upon her religious beliefs.

I blame our media for part of this. They've given the nuts in FL too much fame and too much coverage.

Terrorists don't need incentive to hate the USA.  They can blame whoever they want to blame but the fact is that they already hate us.  It has already been shown.

I am not saying those who are not terroists are included.

Yeah, now there's logic. Afghans yelling "how dare you burn our Quran" as they pour gasoline on our flag and light a match.

Kind of reminds me of those parents who say to their child, "Susie, I told you not to hit your sister" right before Mommy gives her a big fat smack.

    Sheesh.

Has anyone heard of a group of muslims burning the Bible, or the Torah. The Koran is not just a Book. If you dont see the difference between burning a flag and a Holy Book, no one can explain it to you.

We need to consider that majority of the Muslims live in developing countries. Among which most are not properly educated & many are educated in Madrasas. These people are easy to manipulate emotional beings who can turn into terrorists in the name of religion. When these people burn flags it reflects how helpless they are in terms of military might or diplomacy! It also portrays how they lack respect for others & how much their civilization lagging behind

On the contrary, US or west is liberal & civilized. Its like an idol for rest of the world. Therefore when US burns their holy book, it shows US is no different than those Afghans & on the verge of loosing its values & ideals. Moreover, its also a major blunder in terms of peace establishment. Because of that single pastor, no one knows who among us is going to be the next victim of terrorism. You can kiss his ar*se when you loose someone u love...

We are headed back to the dark ages, thanks to the manipulated  media we have. How many of you know that the Taliban went to Texas in 1997 as allies of the USA? Only the BBC reported it not our scumbag press.

And the Taliban refused to build a pipeline to Halliburton investments in the Caspian Sea, which I view as motive for Cheney to make 911 happen.

Thats a good point. Its really interesting that both Bin Laden & Saddam Hussain used to be Best Friends with USA...now Both of them are Doomed! But we can see media is not interested to broadcast past relationships. is it Funny or Phony?

I had an afghan like that once - it was always trying to protest that I was watching the wrong TV show or that I shouldn't be eating in the living room or that my cat was chewing on its fringes - so I gave it to my aunt!  She hasn't had any complaints about that afghan, so I assume she stuck it in a closet somewhere and forgot about it - serves the thing right!

I got curious about that afghan - and so I had to call my aunt, who needed a lot of prompting before she remembered it "was it blue and white?"  "No, Auntie it was orange and yellow and brown,  remember?"   "Oh.  Yes.  Well, did it have a big green spot in the corner?  wasn't that the one your cat upchucked on?"

"No, no, Auntie I would never give you an afghan if my cat had upchucked on it.  The cat just chewed a little on a couple of the fringes.  You could hardly notice it.  It was really, really big, remember, with the striped wavy lines?"

"Oooooh!  NOW I remember!  I'm sorry, honey, I took that old afghan to the Goodwill store.  I just figured it was nice and warm and some poor homeless person might like it.  I just didn't like the colors so much.  I hope you're not feeling insulted, now.  But don't give me any more great big afghans.  In fact, don't give me anymore crocheted things, OK?  and nothing that's orange.  It was very loud!  I mean the colors were loud!  It wasn't that loud.  It hardly said a thing. I don't need anything anyway; I've got everything I need. Just come see me more often, that would be a good present, dear!  Well, I got to go now, bingo night!  Bye Bye"  and she hung up the phone very fast before I could ask her if she'd noticed the protesting.  I get the feeling it was protesting a lot, so she got rid of it - but who can admit that their afghan is protesting?  Sounds crazy.

so, that's what happened to that afghan!

Honestly?  All my aunts are dead!  I never owned a protesting afghan - I made up the whole thing.  I hope I don't get in trouble now for the fiction! I only did it just because when I see people from Afghanistan called "Afghans"  it makes me feel very silly - I think the proper term is Afghanees or Afghanistanis ? or something, but Afghans has to refer to those crocheted blankets everybody's grandmas and aunties crochet out of hideous colors in acrylic yarn and send for Christmas - along with the 300 crochet baby afghans you get as soon as they know you're pregnant! The "popcorn" stitch is particularly popular. Some families are full of crafty old women who love to send you weird little yarn beanbags, for instance, those little yarn octopus dolls or Raggedy Ann dolls, and these are just a few of the things you can never, ever, throw out!  In case they come for a visit all of their handiwork must be properly displayed!

You are a very convincing Storyteller! smile I don't know what the correct term is. Let me know when you figure it out. The problem is that one tries hard to show respect and then, in turn, they call themselves by the wrong term. To prove what? To try to fit in, or be cool? I never understood these things. It's like the Alaskan natives that continue to call themselves Eskimos! Or black people that call themselves N------. If it's a derogatory term, they need to STOP using it. Don't you think? And I'm not trying to generalize. I know it's not everyone, but the few that do, mess it up for the rest of their race.

(I am mostly referring to African Americans, and Innuits here. Don't know if this happens among the people from Afghanistan.)

I'm a bona fide liar - marvelous liar - that's what they call me!  It's hereditary!  My dad used to belong to a Liar's Club - really!

I'm not so sure that Afghan is an actually derogatory term, but it is silly sounding to me.  I don't know what people from Afghanistan usually call themselves.  Maybe Afghan IS the right term?

so I googled it -   and got this:

People of Afghanistan are called Afghans, not Afghani.  Afghani is name of the currency used in Afghanistan.  - from the website for a peace organization.

so I'm sorry - Afghans IS the right term.  I was wrong - oh, that hurts so much to say that!

It is said that Iranian tv channels telecast footages of quran books being burnt in USA.  Based on this, the terrorist elements in Kashmir (India) created a furore, destroyed govt. property, burnt US flags, and police had to fire 17 people down on monday and tuesday.   If their anger is for burning the quran books (owned by Americans), is justified, how much anger should the Americans  show for the destruction of twin towers and continuing killing of American soldiers in Afganistan?

  9. VENUGOPAL SIVAGNA profile image60
    VENUGOPAL SIVAGNAposted 13 years ago

Afgans have no moral right to protest... because the man who was instrumental in destroying the twin towers and the man who destroyed the Budha statue in the Bamiens are with them. Permanent structures were destroyed by them. But the so-called quran burning is not of that nature. We can substitute the burnt quran with a new ones. Moreover, the quran books in their hands were their property and they can do whatever they wish... eventhough it may look childish and meaningless. Let Afgans get free from terrorists, let them start more schools and educate their youth and let them give a honourable and equal treatment to their women. They need not bother what happens in another country.
