My partner still does the hunt-and-jab method of typing, and it's causing sore pointer fingers.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a website or piece of software for good keyboarding lessons for adults?  Free online would be my first choice, but I'd pay for software if it's worth it, and reasonably priced.

Heya, GDay and morning from Aussieland Maddie,

I would recommend if you follow on with the paid software I can recommend Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, software thats been around for over 15 years.

You can get it from Amazon for around US$10 or less smile

For a freebie version, to at least get him started, he may want to try this site

      Hope this helps.

I Hunt and Peck too and I’m pretty good at it, I don’t really see a reason to change styles. Problem is my hunter is not nearly as good as my pec…….

A friend of mine says he has two fingers that know how to type and eight that don't. He has written several books with his two "intelligent" fingers.

I suggest Mavis Beacon.  It's simple, inexpensive and most business colleges use it to teach their students to type properly.

A couple of websites that offer free lessons plus typing/speed tests for progress ranking:

http://www.learn2type.com/index.cfm?act … p;AZERTY=1 - this one offers 3 styles of keyboards including the standard QWERTY layout

http://www.goodtyping.com/ - offers lessons in several languages

http://www.powertyping.com/Lkeyboard.html - not the prettiest GUI, but it teaches the keys through repitition, which is necessary to imprint the finger/key/visual on page to typing.  This one also provides speed/accuracy tests for progress

And, here is Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing v.17
http://download.cnet.com/Mavis-Beacon-T … 41764.html  - this is CNET site which provides a free download of the software.  I haven't used this site for downloads, but I have heard that it is fairly safe from viruses.

    Hope this helps!

I suggest you get a good, sturdy, piece of birch. They will soon learn tongue

Seriously though, mavis beacon is pretty good. I used it to improve my typing when I was younger.
