   We've got a lot of snow here in Cologne, and it's cold; but nothing compared to what you're suffering in the UK.
   -26°C, I can't even imagine it. Hope you all keep safe and warm.

      Still -15 F.
      
      Blankets over windows and doors if you can.  Bubble wrap will stick to glass with a little water and can add one R value - not much, but ever little bit helps.  Close off unused rooms and hang blankets over those doors too. 
      
      If you don't own an electric mattress pad, this might be a good time to buy one.
      
      Thermal underwear , too and of course wool socks for bed.

         Have lots of hot water bottles and was given some cashmere bed socks as a Christmas present last year which are super warm!
         
         In London, it is the people living on the streets who are really suffering in this bitter weather, although they have put some extra funds in to open some more centres where they can have a hot meal and a warm bed

      About 3 inches of snow have ground Heathrow to a halt - a bit of Canadian weather and we would all probably starve over here!
      
      There are lots of people as it is who are not getting their heating fuel delivered in Scotland who are worried about not having heat and cooking facilities over Christmas

         It always seems to hit the elderly worst, not to mention the homeless. Hope there are enough organisations and volunteers to help look after them.

   Two weeks ago we were about that temp in the Rockies. Last night it was well over 40º F, and it snowed overnight, dropping the temp some, but even now, it's not that cold. Only 34º F. However, I expect to get walloped pretty soon. We had about 7 inches of snow over American Thanksgiving, blizzards daily, and airport closures for a few days. Really messed things up. Being stranded in the airport is never fun.

   As a Canadian born and bred, may I suggest the following survival tips that have helped me during the years...
   
   1) It is OK in a snowstorm to resort to cannibalism... the extent of which depends of the severity of the weather...
   For example, a few snowflakes here and there means you can eat your neighbor's finger.. a blizzard means the whole family and their pet.
   
   2) Similarly, feel free to burn anything you want to stay warm... I prefer mortgage documents, court orders, and my wife's diary.
   
   3) Bathing during prolonged periods of freezing cold should be avoided at all costs (less ice forms on one's private parts.)
   
   4) Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to invade Russia during the winter months

      I'm on the very southeasternmost tip of England which is comparatively balmy (it's currently hovering around 0 deg. C).  But it's snowing, and has been for several hours.  So I won't be going anywhere much tomorrow...

      I am sure that you could successfully invade Russia in the winter, even if Napoleon and Hitler couldn't manage it Greek One!
      
      Couldn't you ask Sarah Palin if you could mount your Russian invasion through Alaska and over the ice floes?
      
      Take a snowmobile and 300 Spartans and you will be fine!

            Apparently it's snowing in Victoria and NSW in Australia as well - at least it's actually supposed to be winter in the UK!

         Sadly, the 300 Spartans found Kostas the Goatherder's stash of Raki. I don't think they will be invading anywhere for a few weeks.

   Looks like Greek Ones's tips on cannibalism might come in handy in the UK as fresh food is not getting to the shops and shelves are empty in some areas.
   
   However, I'm sure a lot of kids are not going to cry if there are no brussel sprouts for Christmas dinner! LOL

   Don't have a thermometer so not to sure how cold it's got here in Bedfordshire ~ however it was cold enough Sunday night  / Monday morning to freeze my mains water supply.
   
   It's working again now thankfully and I'm now keeping the heating on 24/7 which will probably bankrupt me ~ not to mention the price of petrol today - ridiculously high.
   
   Having said that the garden looks gorgeous and the birds are rapidly getting through my freezer full of odd bits of cake (before anyone things it's weird to have freezer full of cake, I make them for a living so always have bits left over).
