How wonderful to love your own name! I wish I did!

I have always had a thing for the name Siobhan (pronounced Shivawn) but would not name a child that because it would trip people up too much. I can just picture substitute teachers getting tongue twisted... not worth it.

Had my son been a girl he would have been Natalie Catherine
The Catherine for my dear Aunt Catherine.

What is the meaning connection between them ?

I got it from the bible old testament and research says it was either the name of an Ethiopian Princess or means Princess - I hadn't heard that it also means Lily.

When my daughter was born, we named her Leia, pronounced like Leah.

I thought I had come up with an original spelling...wrong!  I didn't realize that one of the main characters in Star Wars was called Princess Leia, only it was pronounced like Lay-uh. This was back in '83, when Star Wars was very popular, but I hadn't seen it, lol...

Ever since then, my daughter has constantly had to correct people who pronounce her name wrong, or ask her if she was named after the Star Wars character... lol

I think she likes her name anyway, though...and I know I still love it...  smile

Sometimes when you transplant yourself into a different soil, your name might not sound so great. My oldest son hates his Russian name and tells people that his name is John, because his name does not sound nice in English. Name Sukie sounds almost like a swear word in Russian, same as Shailo. I like simple, easy names like Alice or Bekky (Becky? I am not sure) that do not require a lot of effort to pronounce or do not sound funny. At least my youngest son got the name that is easily transplanted - Arthur.
