Are your images pixelated?

   I see a lot of people are getting flagged for this. I'm unsure of the exact message or if it suggests how to fix it.
   
   But if you are going to adjust the width of the image capsule (toggle width right) so the text will wrap around it, you need the image to be at least 260 pixels wide.
   
   If it's going to be the full width of the content area it needs to be at least 520 pixels wide.
   
   If it's bigger than that, it will be fine. It will resize it perfectly.
   
   If it is smaller than that, that's when it will stretch it and cause pixelation.
   
   
   If you're after free images you can always go to www.freerangestock.com, www.morguefile.com and www.sxc.hu
   
   Each site has different requirements, so be sure to check out what you need to do, some have different requirements according to what the photographers wishes are. So sometimes you just have to credit their name, sometimes their name and a link to their personal website or their portfolio, and sometimes they don't require any mention at all.
   
   There are other sites (feel free to suggest others in this thread) but avoid relying on a Google Image Search, even if you do credit the owner, because they aren't giving explicit permission to use their work.

   I've pretty much always gone to public domain sources for images (which is why I so often also have crummy ones). 
   
   I'd found one that was "kind of pixelated".  It wasn't awfully obvious, but even reducing its size did nothing.  Because it's a stormy sky picture, and because I have a few Hubs on "bad things in life", I actually used it a couple of times (and each time kind of knew it wasn't great but decided "not to be a fanatic about perfection" in view of the fact that the stormy sky seemed so right for the Hub subject.  It didn't sit well with me when I used that picture, but, again, I overcame any misgivings.   
   
   I've gotten two e.mails about the same picture  ().  Fortunately, because it was a stormy sky and because I live (apparently) where it rains or snows an awful lot these days, I went outside with my cell phone and took my own dark-sky pictures.    They aren't great photography, but at least they don't have a pixelated corner corner like the other one does.     I'm now in the process of collecting a bunch of flower pictures whenever I shop (or go anywhere) where there flowers are being sold.  I've just been so in the habit of not having a camera, it didn't occur to me that the phone camera might actually take pictures that are OK enough to put with some Hubs.  Now that those e.mails got me thinking "outside my previous HubPages-images box", I'm thinking I'll just make a habit of keeping pictures in mind whenever I'm out (and expand beyond skies and flowers, and onto whatever else I run into).

      Lisa, that is so funny.   I also walk around with my camera because I enjoy taking pictures of everything I find interesting.  I love flowers and spend most summer days taking pictures of gardens in my neighbourhood.  Have fun taking photos.

   I'm such a money hound these days the only pics I ever really need are product pics. Unless you are writing knocking copy no one will care if you use the kinds of images that abound on Amazon or in the selling end of the blogophere.
   
   Failing that, Wikipedia has plenty of images and if you click on one they will tell you if the image is copyright free or who deserves attribution.
