If not, how come? Are there any other alternatives to democracy that we haven't heard of and should be the best replacement to democracy?

Great question. If you are Asking Americans . . . we don't know. America is a republic with ''representative" government. A true democracy, like practiced in some parts of ancient Greece, is "one person = one vote". Our founding fathers did not trust the uneducated rabble that was running around here to make a reasonable or competent choice or decision. We vote for someone to send to the congress to vote for us. So far, it has proven to be better for the ones who go to congress than the ones who send the person to congress. Without going on too long, may I say that almost any system works if everyone follows the Golden Rule, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself."

Nice answer! Got me thinking about it....The inclusion of the Golden Rule provides one alternative. Thank you for the insight

The problem with your Golden Rule is that no system could ever be devised to include it. The old mantra "you can't legislate morality" is so true. One issue to consider is that human beings have long been in tribal mode, where everything we do is based on controlling other members of our "tribe".

As far as democracy goes, it is overrrated. One person one vote sounds fine, but what about protection for minorities, or minority views?

Capitalism is probably more important for freedom. In any society, whether it is democratic, fascist or communist there will always be the elite, the ruling classes. Capitalism gives anyone the chance to create a business, be successful, and so obtain freedom through their own efforts.

There are many alternatives, people in the USA just don't want to hear or see anything about them.
