Linking your own Hub articles in comments

   As I was responding in a comment in my own article (one on migraine headaches) to a previous comment, I noticed the following message below the Comments window:

   Comments are not for promoting your Hubs or other sites
   ====================
   
   I haven't seen this before. On occasion, in comments to my own articles as well as comments to the articles of others, I've cited (with URL) my own articles where it's relevant and I've felt it would be helpful to the issue. Is this considered "promotion". and now prohibited by HubPages?

      It's not so much the prohibitive note by Hubpages, but the fact that many hubbers find it rude.
      
      Imagine if you owned a store that sold cookies, and a customer came in, loudly explaining about their own cookie shop and how they made their cookies and saying you should try them?

         I don't think the retail store analogy (cookies or whatever) works in this case, because we're talking about INFORMATION SHARING. If I publish an article on how to cope with migraine headaches (as I've done), and somebody in a comment adds something like "Great advice! I have some additional suggestions in my article [title & link] which also may help migraine sufferers" — well, darn, it would really welcome that.
         
         I realize that, with all the AdSense and whatnot, people sorta regard their articles as little retail spots, but to me that seems a parochial and even childish attitude.
         
         Nevertheless, I'm now just venting. What is, what is, and at least I now understand what the protocol is. Thanks for the clarification.

      As WryLilt says, it's considered bad Hubber etiquette.
      
      I do often cite one of my own Hubs in my OWN comments, if it answers a reader's question. But I would never post a link to Hub in someone else's Hub without permission.  Instead I would say, "I wrote a Hub on this subject" and leave it to the Hubber to decide whether they want to link to it.

         Actually I have to correct that.  A few times, I've come across a really awful, spammy Hub about dance and couldn't resist posting a link to the correct information in my own Hub.  I know, naughty

   I never seen that message but when someone leaves a comment with relevant info. and a link.  I always approve the comment.  Google see that link as someone linking to your article.  Therefore making your article rank higher in search.

   You can post to your own hubs in your own comments section, but it is considered against the rules and 'bad form' to link to your own hubs in other hubber's comment sections on their hubs, (or at least ask first by private message).

         Oh, I can find a reason to pimp myself from pretty much anything.  What's that you say, NASA just announced a meteor is going to destroy the Earth in three hours? Why, it's funny that you mention that, because I just wrote a hub on my experience at Fudruckers eating a 2 pound bacon mushroom cheeseburger that made me so gassy, I thought the world was ending too.  Check it out HERE
