I was wondering what others who have already participated in thirty hubs in thirty days challenges in the past think about the unique and distinct differences between the two are. Do most of you who are familiar with a challenge such as the 30/30 challenge or similar challenge, believe that this particular contest is anymore intense then the Apprenticeship program for example. Or would you rate each individual program to be as equally intensive as the other, in terms of planning, research involved and also time committments that go into each of the programs? Thank you for your feedback and feelings on how these particular programs measure up.

There's no comparison.  The 30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge is not a program, it's just a personal challenge.  There are no supporting materials, no support from staff and no prize or payment at the end - it's just a motivation tool.

        Hi Marisa:

Thank you for your feedback in reference to the 30/30 comparison. You clarified that nicely for me and I appreciate it. So in a sense I guess you could say that the apprenticeship program is not only an inspirational and motivational tool, but also a learning one as well-compared to the thirty thirty challenge.

I'd say the apprenticeship program is primarily a learning experience.

So compared to the 30/30 program, it sound like the apprenticeship program in the future will not doubt not only teach me more about the learning process. But also behoove me in further honing my writing skills. Am I correct in assuming this?  Thanks again.

            J.

The main thing is, the 30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge will teach you nothing new.  It is, pure and simple, a way to motivate you to increase your output.  No one will offer you any tuition or feedback of any kind.

In the apprenticeship program, you are mentored by a HubPages team member and the idea is to learn how to write successful, money-making Hubs.  How much you will gain from it will depend on how much you already know, and on the ability of your mentor.

Thanks Marissa for that extra tidbit of information. I really look forward to joining this program at a future date when I can better incorporate it into my current schedule.

                J.

I may not agree with Marisa in that the 30/30 does not teach you anything.. I just did a 30/30 in fact my first. I learned a lot from it.. I learned to be organised when it comes to research and keep my focus, I learned to be quick and yet have as much information as possible, persistence was another thing that I learned doing it. Overall I think I just found something about myself and my skills.
I would love to get into the apprenticeship program too... sounds like there is a great opportunity to learn without too much pressure.

Sofs thanks for your feedback as well and yes-the apprenticeship program does sound advantageous to all writers who eventually joins this program, does it not?

Fair point.  However as regards writing, I think the danger of the 30 Day Challenge (especially for newbies who jump straight in) is that you can get so focussed on churning out the Hubs, you don't do as much research as you should - and you neglect other aspects of online writing.

Sunforged has twice run a 60 Day Challenge - which is 30 days writing Hubs, then 30 days promoting.  That reflects the kind of effort needed more accurately.

It looks like you are trying to decide which one is more beneficial to do.  I personally don't think you have to choose between them.

I think the 30/30 is very helpful in getting you more practice in writing.  Through practice you will get better, and learn what kinds of things are getting what kinds of feedback (through comments, and earnings).  This is especially true if you are committed on working to improve your skills and make better and better hubs.  When I was participating, I found that I was making faster decisions (more efficient, but still good decisions), and not challenging myself or wasting time. With all the practice, I learned how to efficiently create the capsules, find good images quickly, and decide on the hub layout quickly. Instead of trying to decide for myself whether a particular topic was worth a hub, I just wrote it.    Then I knew for sure.  I also found that I read more hubs about how to write hubs.

For me, I think that the 30/30 would be best to do first, so I can improve myself as much as I can on my own, so that I don't waste someone else's time with stuff I can do on my own.  This would only work, of course, if you are trying to improve, and working to learn to write better hubs, and not simply churning them out to meet the quantity requirements.

I also recommend reading hubs about how to write hubs on your own, again so you can get as much info on your own.  Just keep in mind that some of the information (especially SEO) you read may be inaccurate or outdated.

Then when I have done as much as I can, then I want to do the Apprentice Program.  I haven't participated in it, but I would love to have a mentor to help me even further improve, to be available to answer questions, and to point out the things I am missing and doing incorrectly.  I want to do this program when I have a lot of time I can devote to get as much benefit out of the help as I can.
