Advice needed on how to respond to ambiguous fan mail, please.

   Hi there, Happy Hubbers!
   
   I've just had a fan mail from someone who, after a quick word of thanks, then wrote hundreds of words promoting her own hubs and other activities (I checked and discovered that the person in question had simply copied and pasted the bio etc from her profile).
   
   I'm not quite sure how to interpret this. Is this an attempt to spam and self-promote that breaks the rules/spirit of hubpages? Should I ignore/deny it?
   
   Or is this a reasonable thing for her to do and I'm just being fussy and over-cautious?
   
   I would like to be a generous and friendly hubber but at the same time I don't want to open the floodgates of spam or break any rules here.
   
   Advice from experienced and respected hubbers would be very welcome.

      I would deny it. Obviously from someone who either doesn't know how HP works, or they are a spammer.

         Thanks for getting back to me on that so fast!
         
         Yes, that was my gut feeling. However, I've just checked and she seems to be a new hubber so maybe there is no ill-intent.
         
         Would you advise sending her a message explaining politely why I've denied her mail and pointing her to the Learning Center or should I just leave her to whatever fate she is capable of creating for herself? I certainly don't want to open up the wrong kind of conversation, if you see what I mean.

   I'd deny that one.
   
   In the past I got those kinds of things sometimes...and approved them, but nowadays I'd not do that.
   
   Actually, thanks for this forum post - there are fan mail things I've let stand that I should go and delete or deny, you can, of course, do that at any time.

      Okay, I think I'll just deny it and leave it at that. I don't want to be mean, but I really would rather get back to writing my next hub, rather than getting muddled up in I don't know what.

   I too have gotten fan mail that seem self serving.  My general rule is that if it includes a link, it won't get approved. There is already a link to the Hubber's profile in each fan mail, and they can advertise whatever they want there.
   
   I even have not approved fan mail that is way too long. That too seems like a way to get attention instead of communicating with me.

   Better that you delete it and forget about it.  Good call!  I received a comment from someone outside of HubPages today, and she ended it with "You're a moron!"  So I deleted that one forever, too.
   
   You don't have to explain a thing when you are dealing with rudeness.  Delete, delete, delete!  You and I did the right thing.

   As a newbie, I wasn't even aware anyone did this sort of thing. I'm happy to say I haven't gotten any spam-like fanmail thus far. I also hate to delete anything, but knowing it's not proper HP etiquette will make doing so much easier.

   Those fan mails do you no good... in truth they are fanning themselves. I would deny such a fan mail.. I would also deny fan mails that say I followed you, now you follow me.. I get many of them... I deny those with links too... My profile page is my promotion page... not for someone to piggy back on  my efforts. Since I never do that to others.. and I wouldn't accept that from others as well.
