SUGGESTION: New format comments - allow more than one?

If the hub comments are set to need approval before they are displayed, you can see that as  someone who has commented. This would allow you, as a commenter, to easily tell the hub writer in a second comment if there was a mistake or serious typo without being concerned that it would be displayed for all to see. However, only one comment is allowed. If it doesn't make the hub more vulnerable to spam or cause some other vulnerability, could two comments be allowed, so a second one could be written for the writer's eyes only?

I realize that this is a nicety, but if it wouldn't cause a bunch of programming changes, it would be very convenient for comments that need approval.

I just read something that indicates you might have a delay for second comments? Is this true? If so, it would allow people making comments to add a second comment if they chose. I've always had my comments set to needing approval. If someone doesn't have that option set, they can still delete a comment. Yes?

If a person wants to leave a secondary comment, then they need to leave the page and come back to it to leave another comment.

When an author has their comment section set to approve first before posting, then the comment has a 5 minute shelf life before it actually disappears from any action you would need to make for a mistake.

Comments are supposedly to be delayed long enough for you to re-read your comment and edit the comment if need be.

The other option you have is to contact that person directly via email to clear up any confusion.

Thanks, Cagsil. I don't often say anything as a correction in someone else's hub. However, when I do, I've been doing it via email. It would be nicer, if it's moderated to just put it in a comment. If I know that I can wait and do it that way, it just feels more convenient, whether it really is or not.

Per Cagsil's explanation, after submitting a comment, you have 5 minutes to edits and corrections.  How does that not take care of your suggestion?

Allowing additional comments does leave more opportunity for spam.

I was just trying to separate the general comment about the hub from the comment that points out a needed correction. But if it makes more vulnerability for spam, that's not worth it. Thanks, MickiS

Perhaps, I misunderstood? You mean the ability to make a comment to the author that correct something they wrote in the Hub? (Rather than correcting something in the comment you wrote?)

That's right. I was thinking that with two comments, I can leave a regular comment, which will be approved and displayed. But, for example, if I wanted to give a heads up to correct spelling in a title, I could do that in a second comment, which the hub writer could then read and delete.

              Ah! NOW I understand. Sorry.

              That's an excellent suggestion!

In fact, Simone and I have been looking at and playing with a few different possible implementations for this very idea. Great minds think alike, I guess, Healthy Pursuits!

We were thinking some kind of feature that would allow you as a signed in user, to edit another author's capsule. It would submit the edits only to the author to either approve or reject. So, for example, if you want to correct something small like typos or spelling mistakes, you could. Or, even make larger editing suggestions like re-writing a sentence or paragraph to improve the writing, you could do that too.

              What do you think?

That's a great idea MickiS.  It might be a lot of work for the programmer and for the "editor."  When you first announced this feature, I was thinking of a private and convenient way to say - "hey I think you spelled this word wrong.  This is how I spell it", or "you might want to reread the second paragraph - I can't follow it very well"  or "you might want to read this hub about the difference between its and it's."  That way, they could fix it however they wanted, and hope learn something long term. Plus you could add other language about what you liked about the hub.

I think that for a hub that had so many errors that it would be easier to show them the edits in a rewrite, I probably wouldn't take the time to do it, unless it was a close friend or I was getting paid for it. For example, I wouldn't want to take the time to find every instance that "it's" was used incorrectly.

I am sure the feature the way you have described it will work great, but I'm not sure all that is necessary.

Sorry, I missed your reply. This might be a great idea, if it isn't too much work for the programmers. I think I wouldn't stop to do many rewrites, but I'd be happy to show and correct in a capsule some typos, formatting problems or misinformation in otherwise good hubs.

You have both been very busy!

I like that idea a lot. Some of my favorite hubbers have typos that I would like to tell them about, but don't always have the time to email them. This would make it easier to make them aware. And on my end, I would appreciate other hubbers telling me of my mistakes without them staying in the comment section permanently.
