Puzzled about hub scores.

   I am rather puzzled as to how  my hubs are scored. For example I edited my best hub recently and it shot up to 96 but after a few days dropped to 77 and is still dropping yet this hub gets the most traffic. My highest scoring hub is an idled one which gets no traffic but yet its score is slowly rising.Any ideas?

      Hub scores are very confusing - many of us try to ignore them, but I agree; it would be great to know what they're used for, how the scores are calculated and whether Google cares about them.

      That said, Fawntia has recently improved the HubScore to make it a more accurate reflection of quality, and we will be explaining that (as well as addressing your points of interest, Marcy) on our Blog soon (we're getting all the details together now).
      
      For now, I'd just ignore HubScores for now. They sometimes fluctuate seemingly randomly and it's best to just ignore them.

         Thanks for posting that link, Simone - I'd never seen it before (maybe the info was updated recently).  I wonder how a balance in the score is made between those that get a lot of comments and thumbs-up (mostly internal readers), and those that have a high ratio of Google views, which are desirable but likely to get far fewer comments and thumbs-up votes?
         
         I look forward to hearing more details, and also hearing how HP uses the scores (if at all) and whether Google cares about them.

      In my opinion hub scores mean nothing! It definitely does not represent quality. Quality cannot change by 20 to 50 points from one day to the next. It seems ridiculous that when a hub gets more hits the score drops while another hub gets may only get one hit and increase tremendously..

   I've wondered the same thing myself - I've registered a title but done nothing with the hub itself, and found it's got a higher score than a couple of my other fully-fledged hubs!  Needless to say, I no longer take scores that seriously...

   I mostly don't pay any attention to the hub scores maybe this is due to my hustle and bustle of wanting to create my hubs for my followers to read. I've only noticed after you have mentioned it here in the forum. Interesting. I shall look into it very soon.

   Hubscores do have importance, yet the level you need to keep looking at them I suggest to not be too concerned with at this time.
   
   You will not even need to look at them weekly. What you can bear in mind is the following;
   
   If the score of your hubs falls below 75 you lose the benefit of outbound links within your hubs. So they become no follow.
   
   If the score of your hubs falls below 40 they will most often become idled and will not be promoted within or outside of Hubpages. In the three years I have been here I have rarely seen one of my own hubs fall below 78.
   
   Bottom line, don't worry.
