Maybe there is a way to do this already, (and if there is, please let me know), but I would like the chance to...
1) Pick which image is used as the featured thumbnail image when an article appears on your profile, or on the main feed, and...
2) Alternatively, or in addition, I'd also like to be able to upload an image of the exact dimensions so that it is not cropped when used as a featured thumbnail image. To me that just looks a little weird and unprofessional. Many Wordpress themes, for instance, let you set a featured image for an article so that this image displays in a slider or other place on the front page of the site. Something like that would be great.
Ideas? Thoughts? Recommendations?
The HP system will choose the first picture on your Hub to display. Make sure your first picture is cropped the way you want it, is perfectly square, and is at least 260wide X 260 high, minimum pixels.
Also, it is better visually (and for Google) if your first picture is to the right of your first text capsule. If not, there is an extra ad at the top of the page, which Google doesn't like.
You mean to place a photo underneath the first main image and to the right of the text, instead of leaving this space to be used by an ad?
But doesn't Google place the ads there? Finally, how do you know that Google does not like this extra ad?
Sorry for the questions but I find your recommendations interesting as well as intriguing.
No. I mean the first image should be to the right of the text capsule. The important thing at the top of a Hub is the words on the page. It's not good to place a full-width image first because you are showing no words and two ads.
If there is no image to the right of the first text capsule, there are three ads shown to about 55 words. Using a photo reduces this to two ads/55 words.
Part of the Google algorithm penalizes ads above the fold. It is HP who sets the ad placement on your Hubs, not Google.
I' ve been looking at some of your hubs and I see what you mean in regards to the photos. From your perspective/experience, following these recommendations will/should result in an increase in visits. Is this correct?
No one can guarantee you an increase in visits. But, complying with Google's directives about 'ads above the fold' should help with your Hubs' evaluation by Google.
Also, I recommend that you stop giving followed links as photo credits.
Unfortunately, most of the photos I use require a link. However, why do you suggest this ?
Put the photo credit in a text capsule so that you can 'NoFollow' the link
You're welcome. Also, anytime you put links in (to anywhere), code them to open in a separate window so your Hub doesn't lose the visitor if someone does click on the link.

I spend endless hours maybe two months ago redesigning my first photo so they would look good on the thumbnails on the profile pages and also on facebook. The latest change has made all that work a waste.A few of the thumbnails look better, but most now look off-kilter and have the text cut off. I...

How do you put photos next to each other instead of under

I have seen in most of the hubs about how they are keeping thumbnail images even after a list of photos. for example: if we have 20 pics, how we can keep only 5 or 6 thumbnail images on above the slide show.

I want to hide the thumbnails row coming above a photo capsule and show the capsule as a slideshow only, but find no option to hide the row of thumbnails appearing above the slideshow. Please help. Thanks.

Why is it that the photo that is loaded does not show up as the thumbnail next the hub on the topics page or even under my profile page? I'm confused as some of the thumbnails show the image of the hub (ie. peanut butter cookies) but not in others, even though I used it as a template (ie....
