   The old catholic man's explanation to those who were trying to make him  change to their religion,be it Jehova's witnesses ,Muslims.,Mormons ,or whichever was simple,"If I don't even believe in my own religion which is the one and only true one,how am I going to believe in yours?

      A person can trust his instincts that there is a creator and not trust their own description (and others)  of who or what this creator is. 
          Religions, from the beginning of recorded history have been trying to paint a picture of creator.
      I do not believe these pictures can capture a true essence of this creator.
      
        The old Catholic man said he didn't believe in his own religion.
         But,  did he say he didn't believe in his own perception of creator?

      I never did meet an honest man who believed in a religion. It is a funny concept indeed. Like believing in a law book or something.
      But I have met many very good men that believed in their God. The subscript here is almost as enjoyable as the fine gents' cantankerous humor filled face.

         Nice reply.  Religion kills the mind,  individualism, critical thinking,  self responsibility, and very very often other individuals of course. Religion dictates the definition of a creator which if one exists is an utterly absurd idea.  If there is a God then by all that we could ever hope that God to be,  he cannot possibly be anything like the image pushed by Christianity, Islam or Judaism.
         
         Belief in a creator can motivate an individual to become a model citizen full of all kinds of goodness.  Religion will seek to come in and screw that person up.

            D-Head, if we got ten believers together and said "let us build a school for these poor kids". I suppose we would form a religion to get organized. Clearly religion can be good. But we all know that sooner or later most likely a "Lord of the Flies" mentality would overcome the ten.

               And, we certainly couldn't muster getting together ten non-believers to do the same thing and forgo the need to form an organized religion, especially when religion has absolutely nothing to do with building schools.

                                 It's rather odd you believers are even interested in schools and what is being taught there. They don't teach spirituality, gods, demons, afterlife, heaven hell, etc... what value are schools to believers who only cherish that which is not being taught at schools?
