Just WHO was the all-time Greatest!

   I grew up in an era of some of the best vocal groups in the business ... Three Dog Night, Bee Gees, Chicago and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap just to name a few. The music really got you going! However, if you had to choose your all time favorite in the "Singers Hall of Fame" who would be your number ONE!
   
   Not to rule out the solo greats like Karen Carpenter, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick, Patsy Cline and the list is so long it would take days!

      My favorite group would be a tie between Chicago and Three Dog Night; my favorite soloist would definitely be Whitney Houston AND Michael Jackson. However, a special commendation for Karen Carpenter (We've Only Just Begun.)
      
      They just don't make music like that any more!

   I would have to say that the greatest band of all time would be Led Zeppelin. They were around before "my time" but their lyrics, music, style, and Robert Plants vocals are unique and epic.

      I was juuuust young enuff to miss out on the first wave of KISS mania in the 70s. I was in the first grade when they were at their stadium-rock peak. Like most kids I knew who they WERE because they were big time "personalities" and their faces appeared constantly on magazine covers, etc. but I don't think I actually heard much of their music till a few years later.
      
      I actually got on board when they first took their makeup off in the early 1980s. I was just starting to get into hard rock music at the time so they picked the perfect time for a comeback.
      
      30 years later I'm still a full blown fanboy, I've seen them live several times (2x without makeup, once with make up on the reunion tour) and have met all four original members at different times. I own all the albums, I still listen to 'em all the time and I own an embarrassingly large amount of KISS related junk.

      I really wasn't trying to be technical about it otherwise I would have used Wikipedia myself :-)
      I was only using the term loosely. It's just a fun thing to see who PERSONALLY enjoyed the groups and soloists of the 1960s-1980s and NOT the official word!

         No, sorry… that was my personal vocal group list.  I had never distinguished vocal groups from bands.
         Band wise I think Cream is my favorite.
         I love all groups British.
         Then, Hendrix.
         Then Neil Young
         Then Robin Trower
         Pretty typical for someone raised on old school radio.
