    I AM DELIGHTED

Another black eye for the RIGHT has got to be a good thing!

From a current article in the Salon e-magazine is a story entitled " Pope Francis makes Tea Party Heads Explode: Why Steve King and Louis Gohmert have it in for the Pontiff?

It appears that the GOP is worried about what the Pontiff will have to say to Congress during his visit next fall. The visit will undermine Netanyahu at critical points.

The Pope is very popular and not afraid to wield that popularity toward human rights and economic justice.

The Vatican recently agreed to sign a treaty recognizing a Palestinian state, the anathema of the right wing congress and Knesset. Black eye number 1.

He will also condemn predatory capitalism in principal, Black eye number 2.

Of course, the GOP wants to shut him up and have him speak platitudes and generalities that take the heat from their public stand. But he will do no such thing.

Well, what is good for the goose...... Based on the recent Netanyahu flap, I guess that payback is a *****.

    So what say you?

Pope Francis will also be in the great lefty strong hold of Philadelphia speaking to over a million Catholics about the role of marriage - the real kind - and life - the unborn and born kind. The Catholic Church draws the opposition of lefties with much greater hatred than it ever does from conservatives. The Catholic Church will never perform same sex ceremonies, support marijuana legalization, come out for communism(or socialism),  or stop condemning abortion as a crime against every life, mother, baby, father, society, humanity, God. The Catholic Church will not back away from its positions on anything that reduces people to mere things.

Who do you think really hates the Catholic Church?

We already know that the Pontiff has a responsibility to speak of the things you talk about,. But most of the GOP wished that is all he talked about left his political and economic beliefs at home. But again, this is not a man who will be muzzled.

He is saying nothing that other Popes haven't said before him. JPII and Benedict both said similar things. The difference is the political atmosphere in America has lefties grasping at straws trying to hold onto Catholic churchmen who have been in the welfare state camp for decades. That political camp has continued its leftward drift toward compelling the Catholic Church and its members to submit to same sex marriage and abortion. The fight for Obamacare and same sex marriage is splintering support among Catholics and Catholic churchmen in a way that optional abortion and private homosexuality never could.

It is forcing every institution to affirm homosexuality and abortion that will end the relationship with the Catholic Church that American lefties have enjoyed for far too long.

We are not worried, our constituency remains quite large. If the Vatican extolls conservative ideology and priniciples, why the problem touched upon by Steve King and Louis Gohmert? The Pope advocating for a Palestinian state? The wing nuts have got to be pulling their hair out

The Vatican extols Catholic teaching, nothing more. Those teachings can fit quite comfortably with the ideas of American conservatism without significant compromise. Those teachings cannot fit within the ideas of American leftism without significant distortion and compromise. The American left are in a never ending war with Catholicism, as the Hobby Lobby and RFRA battles have demonstrated.

The difference is leftists have no problem ignoring the teachings of the Catholic Church for the convenience of their political beliefs, as Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy and innumerable others have shown time and again.

If the left wants an ally, they had better look somewhere other than the Vatican.

American conservatives may be upset at the public position of the Church regarding peace with Cuba and peace with the Palestinians, but what other position can the Vicar of Christ hold?

The difference between lefties and conservatives is that the conservative gets upset that the Church takes an opposite position. The lefty politician doesn't care, continues his split with Church teaching and takes Holy Eucharist any way, despite being in a state of sin on fundamental Church teaching on abortion. The conservative is not an unrepentant, lying, hypocritical and cynical exploiter of his Catholic faith, as is the lefty. He is in disagreement over something that is not Church teaching, but instead, is the public actions of the Church leadership, over which any Catholic can argue and disagree.

Have conservatives screamed that the Pope speaking to Congress is a sign of racism toward Obama? Or undermining America? Or any other of the scurrilous accusations thrown around when Netanyahu spoke to Congress, as Obama's own political operatives tried to engineer his electoral defeat?

What conservative has made half the noise lefties did when Netanyahu addressed Congress?

This is about apples and oranges. Netanyahu circumvented the proper channels to undermine foreign policy which is primarily under the purview of the President. That was the issue here, let not confuse things.

It has got nothing to do with racism, you guys seem to have a habit of constantly bringing it up, makes me wonder just how true racism problem is for the right.

NO! Congress can invite whomever they choose to speak to them. Netanyahu received an invitation from that COEQUAL branch of government and attended. The only confusion is you see a difference between one man speaking to Congress and another man speaking to Congress. Neither is a sworn enemy of the United States. Unlike the Democrats who invited Muslim Brotherhood leaders to speak to Congress - actual sworn enemies of Western Civilization.

How many times in the past 8 years, since Obama announced his candidacy, has every criticism and opposition to Obama had racism at its root, according to lefties.

Yes, the USA today had it right, whether its racial or not, it still is disrespect for the man and the office. Black folks were not the only ones upset, on that you can rely. Ever since the birther nonsense, the wing nuts have been beating up on Obama since he assumed office. Boehner knew exactly what he was doing and the effect that it would have, not to involve the President when a visiting head of state addresses Congress. You can waltz around it all you want, it is just crap.

Credence, do you actually believe that The Pope is some sort of an ally for the Democratic Party. If you do, you are sorely mistaken.

First, because The Pope is a holy man, he views US normalization of ties with Cuba, and the establishment of a Palestinian state, from the standpoint of the humanitarian that he is supposed to be.

However, the two leading issues on the Democratic platform are legalized abortion (all the way up to the end of the third trimester) and the establishment of the legalization of same-sex marriage as a  federal law.

Now, you know as well as I do that the head of the Roman Catholic Church is not going to ally himself with an outfit that takes those kinds of stands.

In other words, The Holy Father is a stone-cold friend of the Republicans and he is only being cordial towards the Democrats.

Yes,  Feenix, the pope is not an ally of the Democratic party, I am saying there are a couple of points that the Pope will touch upon during his visit and speech that the GOP just as soon not have to be mentioned. The GOP is not interested in hearing that the Pope is taking a position on the Isreali-Palestinian conflict that conflicts with that of the GOP position of no quarter to be given the Palestinians, humanitarian or not. There will be some light on this considering the flap over the recent Netanyahu visit.

Credence, I believe that nearly all of the Congressional Republicans are realistic enough to know that The Pope (any Pope) is going to sympathize with the "poor Palestinians."

And so far as Netanyahu being invited here by the Republican Congressional members -- the only reason why there was flap over that is Obama is a damned fool. The man has absolutely no leadership ability, he is in way over his head, ISIS is cleaning his clock, Putin is treating him like a bitch, the Iranians are ripping him off, he didn't even have the common sense to come down hard on the rioters in Ferguson and Baltimore, he allowed his wife to give the stupid commencement speech that she delivered at Tuskegee, he's putting a stop to the feds providing local police departments with military-style equipment to use in protecting their communities against today's heavily-armed criminals and any terrorist outfits that may show up on the scene, like a little punk he's whining and complaining about how the Fox News Channel is getting on his case, he's dumb enough to be seen in public with Al Sharpton, and I could go on.

Many Popes were careful to avoid touching on political topics, stuck to the churchy stuff.

As for your opinion of Obama and the examples you gave, I disagree, but of course, you knew that I would. No point in writing a dissertation when we are clearly apart on our assessment of the situations at hand.

No Pope has ever stuck to the Churchy stuff because morality is political and always has been. Ask Henry VIII or Lech Walesa.

I guess we'd have to leave it to the left to commend themselves with politicizing  the pope's visit .  As one who tends to think  conservative and yet independently I say there isn't much at all I don't like about the Vatican views .

There ARE too many abortions happening .

It IS time to de-sanction Cuba .

It IS time to begin feeding the poor and starve capitalists.

Marriage IS sacred , or should be more so with a whole lot of you .

So how again  do conservatives fear the popes visit ?
